Will I regret my decision?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hey fellow Bimmerposters, I recently placed an allocation order for my BMW M3 Non Xdrive. Im seeing a lot of posts recently on how xDrive is just 20x better and a lot of people said that they wouldn't buy an M3 Unless its manual or xDrive and not really anyone talks about the RWD version, im just wondering if I'll regret my decision. I had to choose between xDrive and standards seats or RWD with Carbon buckets, I chose RWD because I love the Carbon buckets. I live in South Florida and im just wondering If ill regret my decision. Why the hold up for carbon buckets with xDrive? Did you actually place a custom order or did you choose a car they ordered already?

as long as you don’t want to be a traffic light racer, RWD will be great! I love the way my M3CX pulls, but I’m sure they are similar experiences.

The buckets definitely add a cool factor, your passengers will hate sitting in them 😂

I'm telling the ... um, larger... of my friends and family that they'll have to sit in the back seat when I get my M3.

I would go with regular M seats with X drive. I sat in those CB seats, I did not find them comfortable. You can go RWD only with the Xdrive model.

Take your pick, what do you want more...CB Seats or X drive.

I placed a deposit back in May and got my allocation, custom order. Build week 34. I just dont know if an extra 8000 dollars for both is worth it and I love the carbon buckets

X Drive with CB Seats will hold higher value so yeah it's worth it.

My wife was getting in and out of the bucket seats while 37+ weeks pregnant. They’re awesome!

Also, why would you not get xDrive? As I’ve said many times before… at the touch of a button, the car becomes RWD. So, you get both! Also, don’t forget that 10 stage traction control…

Buckets (and xDrive) or bust!

I had a RWD G80 M3 comp first. I thought it handled on rails! Then I got an x drive a few months later. The X drive is much more planted and safer feeling.

However. When I put my X drive in RWD mode. I seem to think the rear end of my X drive in RWD mode is MUCH more tailwhip happy. My RWD only G80 sure felt safer pushing it in a turn vs my X drive in RWD mode. And I even have the TC dial set to 7.

Maybe its just me. But I seem to think my RWD only M3 handled better than my x drive in RWD mode. Put it back in AWD mode, and the X drive is king to me.

I got rid of my 21 x3mc last year for a 2022 M3xc. Best decision ever. A much smoother ride, the same visceral power, and I think it looks a lot better. I was sick of getting the whole soccer mom car thing. It was time for a change. Congrats on the new ride!

I’m a MT guy so zero interest in the Comp. But, if I was going to get a Comp, it would be with X Drive. And I also have the buckets and love them.

Think the Xdrive is a winner by 3 points.

1. Will hold traction with just about any car out there. Yeah, I know no one here has ever had a traffic light Grand Prix vs a Demon or 911.

2. Can be driven in either RWD mode or AWD mode with a button/lever push.

3. Front seat passengers (wife?) can be challenged by the Carbon Fiber seats. No denying they do look great, like most things its a tradeoff.

I think you should get what you want. $8k on a near $100k car is not so consequential that it should influence your decision.

These are dream cars for people. If you can afford it, and you actually want xDrive and buckets, you should get it.

But...build week 34 sounds like it's already done/on the way, so not sure what your decision is here. Drop it and order another one?

Having owned both a rwd w/ standard seats and an xdrive w/ buckets including a couple months when I had them both at the same time , my vote is for definitely worth it to get both.

I’ve enjoyed the hell out of my RWD M3C the last 21 months. As for winning the stop light races…you don’t encounter that many cars that can beat you even in RWD guise on a regular basis. 🤷🏻‍♂️

this is even truer out on the open road during long trips. rarely see sports/luxury cars away from cities.

RWD for me and I ha e a 22 and don't mind it all. Based on my driving skills and the roads I travel, have not had a need for xdrive. I know I'm in the minority and I wouldn't say if I got another one I would check that box the second time around. I'm basing this of course on my user experience and I have no tune on my car.

I would go xdrive and standard. The xdrive I would rate more important than the seats but in full disclosure I chose the Base model so I could have a manual and still chose regular seats because they are more comfortable, have a cooling function, and I am tall and don't want to deal with getting in and out of the carbon buckets. They are badass and look the part.

I would second that if you are going with an auto, the XDrive is the way to go.

I also had a chance to compare both the buckets and regular seats. Loved the look of the buckets, but, having a small garage bay for the M3 swayed my decision as getting in and out would be a pain in tight spots. The regular seats have about 7/10th’s the holding power or the buckets, and have the cooling option, lumbar support, side bolster support, etc. if you have the space, and usually park in open/wide width spots, then, spec the buckets. They are special in their own right.

GL! In either case, can’t go wrong with an M3…and mine is my first ever BMW.
