Bye bye Apple CarPlay and Android Auto due to chip shortage?

This is ridiculous if it turns to be true:

More restrictions coming out of BMW https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1884564

Just got off phone with genius and the guy says he hasn't heard anything about this yet. Mine is still on for week 4 and he says he doesn't see any deletions on it, and he does see 6NS 'enhanced bluetooth' still on there. I looked on my build sheet from the dealer and I don't have 6p1 either, just 6NS and ZAX CarPlay

keeping fingers, toes, and eyes crossed through the holidays here

Yeah I'm guessing they are removing the wifi and uplink system from the car, wired aa/cp only unfortunately.

So does that mean all cars in production will be without this feature starting January? I'm scheduled for a week 5 build. That would be a freaking bummer not having Apple car play.

If they cut out CarPlay on a $70-100k car… that’s just crazy.

I'd like to know this too...mine entered production queue but I know the factory is shut down right now for the holidays...I should be a week 1 completion from what Genius told me.

I also want to know what this 6P1 option is...6NS (enhanced bluetooth) and ZAX (carplay/AA) are the only codes that show up for me on the build sheet.

I agree no Apple CarPlay would really suck. In fact it might be a deal breaker for me. That said, is this something that can be retrofitted later at the dealer?

It sounds like two separate hardware pieces are being eliminated; the Apple CarPlay "preparation" means the external antenna, which just plugs into the back of the iDrive hardware to communicate with your phone will be omitted - which could be easily retrofitted.

However, the iDrive controller (touch version) is considered an individual vehicle module in itself, which requires its own programming to able to be retrofitted, that can be costly and a challenge to accomplish successfully.

The original message/screen shot suggests that the missing module is related to Bluetooth connectivity, so it's possible that CarPlay / Auto would continue to work but only with wired (USB) connections. Not as convenient as BT, but if you're plugging your phone in anyway to charge, it's not as big a deal.

Bluetooth for wireless telephone calls would still work, just not audio streaming via CarPlay..

Basically, the system would operate like BMWs before CarPlay was available, circa 2016 MY.

Currently, the cars do not support wired CarPlay. Only wireless. My car drops CarPlay sometimes so I asked about using it wired, and was told the car doesn't support it.

It just be. No, it doesn't work. Bummer even if you have wireless CarPlay as it's not reliable. Drops every time for me in one spot near my house and sometimes other places, must be interference. BMW says it's an Apple issue, Apple says "??". I asked about a wired backup, and BMW says the car doesn't have it. Tried plugging it in anyways, and nothing.

To be clear, I "think" you can still play music from your IPhone if wired, but definitely no CarPlay.

Wow. That's wild. Technology going backwards, while price goes upwards.

No CarPlay may sway me. As trivial as it may be I need it.

$100k 3 series that can't include a basic option on a Chevy Spark. I understand supply chains and constraints, but c'mon.
