Dead spot in steering feel

Just received my xdrive g80 with m performance suspension, but I still have a debt spot in the center of my steering wheel. What’s the best way to get rid of that? Is there a chance the installed the suspension incorrectly?

Replacing the front thrust arm bushings with monoballs got rid of the dead zone for me. I went with Millway but there’s a few other brands.

How noticeable is the increased NVH from the monoballs?

I barely notice any added NVH, maybe a little more vibrations but nothing significant.

Supposedly flashing the CS steering profile also helps with steering feel. That along with the mononballs would be the move.

Millway monoballs and there's zero dead spot or slop, with no downsides. I was actually shocked the improvement that one thing added.

I'm also G80 compx on MP suspension. Next step is the CS software.

Does that void warranty …. I’m gonna eventually send my cpu to femto just wondering if it’s the same thing?

I mean, doing that will definitely cause warranty issues so I wouldn't worry about the CS steering coding lol

I really doubt coding in the CS steering would void the warranty. But if you’re going to send your DME in to be unlocked it shouldn’t be a concern anyway

Is the steering sticking on center? Is this the problem?

What this guys complaining about seems like a quick steering wreck. I don’t think that’s an issue. My issue is if I jerk the wheel to the right or left, it takes a second for the car to catch up. It’s not Responsive enough.

No, he’s talking about the rack sticking on center. Having to force the wheel to one side, to overcome the wheel sticking in centerline. I’ve had this happen to a few different brands for me. Probably 2-3 of my cars have done this. Nothing on the M4. But, my 2021 Accord started doing this ever so slightly at 64k miles. Not enough to make a stink about it, but it’s slightly annoying.

Have the CS suite of closing and direct steering right from center. No dead spot anymore. No monoballs.

Can confirm it makes a world of difference to the steering.

For the $200, it was well worth it. And it is OEM software, and beyond that I dont believe there are any hardware changes on the CS either.

Incorrect. The CS has different hubs which allow different alignment.

The CS largely eliminates this trait as well. Listening to The Smoking Tire Podcast featuring Miro, the chief test driver of Rimac, he was discussing EPAS tuning, and self-centering force was one of the elements they could tune.

Ah...but aside from that suspension hardware, springs, shocks, and transmission are still the same. Seems like they did very little this gen compared to last for the CS.

Dampers are tuned differently. Not sure if different units or different tuning. Also, anti-roll bars are different.

Gearbox tuning is also different (which I also love) as is the differential tuning.

Unique chassis technology tuning; available track-oriented tires.

The chassis technology in the new BMW M3 CS has been tuned precisely to the engine’s performance characteristics and vehicle weight distribution, and the calibrations of the DSC system and M Dynamic Mode, also specific to the CS, have been purposefully geared to the demands of track driving.

The specially tuned axle kinematics and unique wheel camber settings, dampers, and anti-roll bars serve to optimize steering precision, transmission of lateral control forces when cornering, spring and damping response, and wheel location. The electronically controlled dampers of the adaptive M suspension are specifically tuned for the M3 CS, as is the electromechanical M Servotronic steering with variable ratio and the integrated braking system.

Not sure how this compares to last CS?

When you did the CS tuning did you also do the suspension and diff? I did and feel the suspension is a bit more compliant but have not been able to tell re: diff.
