BSM is a very tough color if you're a perfectionist, especially commuting that much in New England. You should get your current paint situation fixed and then get the entire car PPF'd. If the PPF get's damaged, you can just replace a panel for cheap.

At the rate you're going, you might need your own spray booth and Sata gun.

Bro, let it go! You should probably not buy expensive things.

BTW, $1800.00 for a new windscreen. I paid $916.78 back in Oct 2022 for an OEM BMW replacement from Safelite!

No doubt but I drug my other BMWs through hell over the years and it's one of those things that stands out on this car. Maybe it's the quality or maybe the color that makes it more obvious - IDK.

Cracked windshield is a comprehensive claim. The OP’s rates won’t go up due to this. At least not in the US. Not sure how you could prevent a cracked windshield especially with BMW’s as you can crack one with the smallest of stone. I’ve had to replace multiple windshields during my life and not one caused my rates to go up.

I fully understand the frustration of rock chips. I-26 from Charleston S.C. towards Columbia.. Interstate is degrading and a lot of Semi truck/container traffic. Took my 2021 G80 to Charleston then looped to Greer and tail of the Dragon. It was my 1200 mile break-in loop. Pelted in the morning with gravel from Semis kicking up loose stones. It sucked, and once a couple of nicks in the windshield happened all I did was shrug and think "well since I got this over, lets enjoy it".

I've had my share of very nice cars (especially considering my incomes at the time). They will all have something happen to them if put miles on them.

Sorry for your angst, but it gets better after a few thousand miles.

I live in a small village and have to drive past working stone quarries in 2 of the 3 roads out of the village, so I drive past one almost every day and they are pretty busy roads with heavy traffic

I owned my last car, a G82 M4CX, for just over two years and 24k miles and had virtually no stone chips on the front when I traded it last week

I also drive pretty spirited along both roads, as they’re winding UK B roads, so I’m always pressing on

My previous F82 suffered from quite a lot of stone chips so I can only assume a combination of me leaving a bigger gaps these days and perhaps the G8x cars maybe having thicker/ harder lacquer (?) have greatly reduced them!

I have about 12k on my BSM 22 M4c. I also drive 95 and 93 frequently into Mass. If you get unlucky, especially if you drive in the AM when they allow the breakdown lane to be used...its just a matter of time. I try to stay in the middle...

The windshield is made of some softer than baby shit material so not much you can do there. I have replaced 2. I used insurance because I figure if they are going to fuck me, then why not.

Preventative goes a long way. At least now you have the car covered properly with PPF. And next time get the warranty for the windshield from BMW or have it on your insurance plan.

How fast are you driving on those busy roads? Stone chips usually occur at highway speeds (i.e. 60+ mph). On slower roads, you're not going to get any chips cause there's not enough inertia to kick up loose stones with sufficient force.

This is why I lead and don’t follow. I will literally pass people on a two lane road instead of being behind them. More so because they drive too slow and second because I want to see what coming up instead of relying on someone else’s reflexes or car movement to warn me about things in the road or whatnot. Doing this also solves the issue with idiots throwing stuff up at my car. If I can help it, I’m not going to be behind someone and if I can’t, I may distance myself so it’s not an issue but take into account some other wahoo wanting to squeeze in and defeat that whole purpose. It’s a dance… lol

This windshield is almost as bad as the one(s) in my Model 3 and that's saying something.

Give some space in-front of your car. Chips are a symptom of severe tailgating.

So I took delivery on 11/6/2023 of my 2024 M4 Comp. I'm approaching roughly $13k in the hole with this car so far. As of today there is 3900 miles on the car.

- December 2023 - The front end of the car was entirely repainted due to extensive paint damage to the hood and rock chips all over the front end. This cost roughly $5000.

- December 2023 - Post paint repair. I had front PPF done on the car. $2500

Total December Bill was roughly $8500 after taxes.

- March 2024, $1800 for a cracked windshield.

- March 2024 - This week I found several paint chips above the side skirt. I assume this will cost between $500-$1500 to fix with $2500 to PPF the rest of the car.

I think I really screwed up by not going through insurance for any of this. I really was worried about affecting the carfax / vehicle history report.

I should of immediately PPF'ed the whole car from the beginning.
You got taken to the cleaners.

To paint the front bumper for me and Frozen white aged paint it’s $500. Not sure why anyone would pay $5000 for that. That’s ridiculous.

And you go through your insurance or if you have that extra car care most of us bought from the dealer it’s all fixed for free. Some of you do things the hard and wrong way.

It sounds like he got the ENTIRE front end painted (bumper, hood, and maybe fenders as well?).

I drive 100 miles a day for work on Interstate 95. I understand rock chips were bound to happen but I’ve never had it this bad on any vehicle before.
OK…100 miles a day on an interstate is going to turn your front end into swiss cheese. I officially retract the accusation that there is more to the story

Even trying to lead or leave a lot of space between you and the car in front of you won’t prevent someone else from jumping into that space and kicking up stuff to chip your paint.

Modern paint is getting super thin and this car does seem to be prone to attracting rock chips. I drive my car recreationally since I work from home and I have three small rock chips right around the BMW emblem on the nose.

Oof repainting after that many miles? If you're that OCD then not even PPF will save you. PPF isn't some miracle shield - it can also get damaged and self healing properties will eventually wear out as well. The point of PPF is to be a sacrificial layer and not to make your car look perfect all the time. If you're that worried about the paint looking 100% then the only solution is to not drive or let go of your OCD tendencies.

Yeah this is true.
OP, the solution here is to get a Tesla for commuting and save the M for the weekend. Beat the crap out of the Tesla instead.
