There's no point in asking for opinions on something so subjective. I'm sure a dealer around you has or will have one in the next X months with and without buckets for you to try.
Close but not really.

Yes.

Again, people should always buy what they like and works for them.

But just because someone didn’t select the buckets (for their reasons), doesn’t mean those reasons apply to others. Of course, this is generally true for most things including options, colors, etc. available on the g8x. The difference with the buckets vs something like the exterior color, is that unless you have lived with the buckets for a while, your basis for your opinion is extremely limited. Would you ask a blind person if they thought Red interior went well with IOMG?

No offense meant towards anyone, but what someone reads on the internet, what they hear from their buddy or what they experienced on a test drive doesn’t replace actual ownership and use. And even then, opinions can diverge but then at least they are based on real experience.

Dislikes of CB:
#1 do not fit in them
#2 ingress/egress is challenging
#3 back or leg pain
#4 cost
#5 prefer aftermarket options
#6 like the ventilation of sport seats
#7 no ventilated seats
#8 more difficult to sell the general buyer will have challenges with ingress and egress
#9 10 hours in the CB’s requires a week in traction over a certain weight
#10 Nut crusher hurts after hours
——
Prefer CB:
#1 way they hold you in
#2 look/feel
#3 lower seating positon
#4 air ventilation
#5 Back of the seats look badass
#6 Best choice for track days
#7 Can add a harness easily
I adddd a few to both cons and pros to me. I really wanted the CB’s as I wanted fully loaded but I’m just too old and overweight to crawl in and out.

Not really. Being uncomfortable is one thing. Being near paralyzed after very long trips is something different. Short drives they are still uncomfortable but not debilitating 😂

10 you might be right the ball crusher is just uncomfortable

Not really sure what you're implying.

People who have buckets commenting are obviously going to say "yes" while giving reasons why but only as it pertains to their own personal experience, exactly like people who don't have them doing the same for their own personal experience.

No amount of forum posts is going to be better than OP going and trying them out for himself.

OP asked for our opinions. But I agree. I wasn’t convinced they would work for me until I sat in the buckets myself.

I'm aware, but I feel OP's time is much better utilized if they find some way to try them rather than listen to us internet randos with stuff like this.

It’s a no brainier to buy them if you are even 50:50 on it because you can sell them / swap them so easily for a profit if you don’t like them

You’d easily get standard seats plus $8k or so for a buckets swap

Buy them so you have the option as they’re very expensive to add after the fact

I had carbon buckets on my G82 M4CX for over two years and loved them, so comfortable on long drives (including no lower back pain that I had in my F82 M4 Comp), while also being really supportive during spirited driving

I’m 5’ 11” and about 85kg and never had any issues getting in or out of them (hand on the doorsill method)

However, I’ve just traded my G82 for a G80 M3CS and the driver seat is MUCH more difficult to get in and out, due to the door pillar I think and perhaps the seat position being slightly higher (I haven’t worked it out yet 100%)

I just can’t find a way to clear the side bolster on entry / exit, I catch it every time and I almost have to fall out of the car on exit - the G82 way more usable daily with bucket seats than the G80 in my opinion

FWIW, just ordered a G82 6MT and was on the fence on the buckets and had the opportunity to visit a dealer who had an M2 6MT (with buckets) and an M4 6MT with the standard Sport Seats -- I probably jumped back/forth 20 times between the two. I'm 5'8" 160. I realize this is not a direct response to the OP., but hope it adds some value to the thread. Here were my impressions:

Buckets:
The buckets look amazing (as expected) in person, In an M4, the beautiful carbon backs are hidden 99% of the time - they certainly would shine a lot more in an M3. Ingress/Egress with the buckets was a bit annoying even in the M2. I developed a system by the end of propping myself up on the bottom and top of door frame which generally enabled me to clear the bolster without rubbing it. However, I did find myself needing to adjust the steering wheel position (not electronic) to clear things more easily.

Once in the buckets, the seats held like a glove and I didn't have any issues engaging the clutch. I did however get a bit of pressure/rubbing against my left thigh when resting on the dead pedal --- hard to say whether this would become annoying/painful during daily driving, but I did wish the bolster was angled out slightly to avoid this. Adjustments were robust and comfortable.

Sport Seats:
The regular seats (full silverstone was what I saw) look really nice. Obviously, ingress/egress is a non-issue and the back bolsters hold nicely (similar to my F82 seats). the bolsters around the hips significantly looser than the buckets (duh). If the buckets weren't an option that I was considering/testing, they are a proper sports seat.

I'll omit my verdict as it is irrelevant to the conversation --- but hopefully my experience helps some of you out there who are evaluating a similar decision. Best advice I can give is to sit in BOTH seats before making a decision.

5'10" 170 lbs.

I got the carbon buckets in my M3 because:
  • They look awesome.
  • I fit in them well.
  • They have excellent support.

RichardGM4 Maybe set seat position memory #2 to slide the seat back so you can get out easier? That's what I do. But yes, I also haven't figured quite how to get out of the car without contacting the seat ...you basically stumble over the door sill to get out. The door sill/side skirt is so wide in these cars.

If you are thinking about buckets, or not, just try them out. We're well into the G8X production run that there are plenty out there with buckets for you to sit in whether at the dealership, used dealership, or a buddy that's hopefully not too far from you. Visit your local subforum on these forums to see if anyone nearby is willing to let you sit in their buckets. I welcome any person from the tristate area to sit in my car to experience either a 6MT or the buckets.

The buckets and their comfort is not based on height or weight, otherwise on paper I'd hate them. It's based on personal preference and what you can endure. Ingress and egress suck, but sitting on the actual seat is comfy and I'm a big hefty boi.

I have no issue with ingress/egress. Maybe it’s all those years of endurance cycling that makes it easier? It certainly helps to be lighter on your feet and strengthen those glutes.

It’s all up to you man. I do really long drives in mine, like to switch up my leg position a-lot on road trips over long stretches, and run warm as hell and needed cooling to avoid swamp back on my adventures so functionality had to win out for me even though the buckets look cool as hell. If you are still 50/50 after sitting in both just get the buckets as financially and practically way easier to swap the other way than vice versa.

Here’s what I gather if you want the nice carbon buckets…

Lose some weight, work out and shave your back and ass so you don’t swamped if you “run hot”. 😂

Added benefit is your significant other or anyone you meet if you don’t have one yet, won’t think you’re disgusting anymore. 😝

Such a personal decision. CB’s look awesome. I got the regular seats and I’m happy with them overall. Although, I can’t say they are amazingly comfortable.
