Those with Frozen colors and PPF, question

I reached out to a shop for a PPF quote for my Frozen (brilliant) white G82. I asked for a PPF quote for the front panels (Front bumper, whole hood, fenders, mirror caps, and headlight).

Once I told them it was frozen white they said that the color would look a bit off with the front PPF only and I should PPF the whole car.

Has anyone with frozen colors installed PPF just in the front? how did it look?

I have frozen white and just did the front, it looks perfect. Cant tell a difference between the part that was ppf'd and the original finish. You will have to use matte ppf.
BTW, it was Xpel Stealth that was used, I just went back and checked my invoice.

Thank you! Do you mind posting a few pics? From far and close and maybe in transition from a panel that has ppf to one near by that doesn't?

Would appreciate it if you could. Thank you.

I am in the process of choosing my M and leaning towards Frozen. I have the same question, plus if you only did partial, after 2 or 3 years, wouldn't the sun and environment affect the areas with PPF vs Not PPF'd differently. I hate to assume but, I assume after time you will start to see the difference between the different areas.

Just as a side note Frozen paint requires special treatment if anything happens. It cannot be polished. So if u worry about protecting it doing the whole car makes a lot of sense.

It changes the sheen ever so slightly but it's largely the same, I had Frozen Portimao and it was very close.

Frozen paint makes no sense to me. You might as well get any color you want and just stealth wrap it matte. At least that way you can buff out and or easily repair any dents or scratches.

Yea true, but in my case the car is garaged so not sitting in the sun much.

True, I am the second owner so this is a learning experience with frozen for me. No regrets tho. Love the look.

This is by far the #1 reason why if you’ve got frozen to PPF the whole car. It’s a pain in the ass to even take care of it as is. Either say fuck it and rock it and whatever happens happens and don’t sweat it or PPF the whole thing to keep it pristine and remove the maintenance worries along with that.

I have front PPF (bumper/headlights /hood/fenders/A-pillars/side skirts) and I can't tell visually the difference between the paint and the PPF. I have Suntek Ultra Matte.

I would say when it comes to deciding on entire car PPF vs. just the high-impact areas, look at your history ...did your cars get scratched/nicked up on the roof, doors, etc.? If not, then it might be superfluous to PPF those areas.

Exactly pain in the ass to say the very least. With the brake dust and all that 2 min after washing it this car is a B to maintain. But well worth it.

I am one of the folks that didn’t PPF the frozen white front and it gets rock chips easily due to how thin the paint is. For me it’s cheaper to paint match in a few years than spend $2k+ to wrap it. It’s $500 to age match the frozen white. So it’s cheaper than spending $2k.

Most folks will be into the M4 H80 and H82 anyway.

Had frozen grey II on the Z4 - did the whole car except the back and trunklid. Couldn’t tell the difference between the covered panels and uncovered. Maybe a slight sheen difference in certain lighting conditions but to the untrained eye looked exactly the same. Xpel stealth.

One thing I would warn you about - although the G82 may be different than the G80 - the rockers and rear fenders take a beating. It’s probably worth doing full sides as well. Again the G82 may not need it quite as badly as the Z4 or G80, so get others’ advice.

I don’t get why people get frozen paint unless you PPF it. Unless you’re treating it like a museum piece, it picks up so many chips and scratches.

You can’t polish out the imperfections and the paint is so thin. If you don’t you PPF the entire car, it will look like ass. Just get a color and stealth it. You can replace a panel for a few hundred bucks if something happens.

And you’re probably the poster on bimmerpost with the smoothest brain. Whatever you do, I would do the opposite.

People don't get PPF because it's good value. They do it because going to the body shop for weeks to have a front end painted (and probably repainted when they fuck It up) and having mismatched panels, is a pain in the ass. If you can afford to blow your money on a new M3 every generation then you can afford the slight premium of PPF vs repaints.

Great points but this guy is an absolute clown so none of this will resonate.

Why are you calling him a clown. Are you retarded? OP is asking for information on what do do. If anything you are a clown for not applying any relevant information.

Yup. He’s a clown. Look at his posts trolling other members. I gave you some helpful info in your post where you were crying like a baby because you keep your car in a tent.

Calm down calling people the “r” word. You’re a clown too.

I guess, I didn’t read all that. Just trying to help other members. My apologies Lt
