2025 LCi Headlight Functionality

I've seen some comments about the fact that the LCi headlights arent going to be as functional, due to them losing one of the projectors. As you can see in this animation.

I think people will be surprised at how they actually function. Function C and Function E are most interesting. Function C appears to be separated forward facing beams, which may act as high beam lamps. Additionally, Function E appears to be a separate functional cornering lamp.

The lights lose the "matrix" function that the current lasers have with two different projectors vs one, as you noted.

We already have the cornering light (as do most BMWs) so that's not really new.

It's definitely a step down in terms of functionality with the full adaptive/anti-dazzle coded.

I'm very reluctant to want a newer g80 after LCI because of this change.

I actually think it may be an upgrade.

Everywhere. The chalk G82 that you saw in the ad release is a German spec.

I think it's easy to figure out whether this is an upgrade or a downgrade. Flip the script. Had the car originally been released with these new LED headlights and the LCI update featured the Lasers - would you consider it an upgrade? If so, then this is a downgrade for you... and vice versa.

Uninspiring and lacking distinction. These could be from any car.

As others on this forum have said in the past, I prefer lasers over "cheap LEDs" 😉

My biggest turn-off is the shape. Just lacks any sense of identity. I think the lci f80, pre lci f90 and the g80 laser lights prefected the shape. It was clearly an angel eye but modernized tastefully. These new ones have no identity or distinction

im sure the coolest mod on the lci will be to convert back to lazers lol. I dont particularly hate the new lights I like them but I like the lazers on my 23 better. Im still going to order an lci.

I just think the design of the current angel eyes is getting old. If you think about it that way, maybe it makes more sense. After the angel eyes, where does the design language go from there? Well they figured it out. Now this is the new angel eye, for the foreseeable future.

I’m fairly certain with the US allowed to have the new headlight tech, that they aren’t going to downgrade to headlight tech from 5 years ago.

I could, if they save $$ to produce them and never pass the savings on to the customer.

The laser lights were about $8,500 at the parts counter anyway.

APPROVED! "nouveau design element"

Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 (FMVSS 108) regulates all automotive lighting, signalling and reflective devices in the United States. Like all other Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, FMVSS 108 is administered by the United States Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

I rest my case.

Here is an article that talks about these issues.

They basically saying that US regulations are very complex and European standard is different and apparently all these technologies don’t comply with US rules.

No matrix is just a US thing

Our market has these with matrix. The fact that it’s a single lense is irrelevant - I’ve owned plenty of cars with matrix and one projector

I'm not sure what you mean by "our market has these with matrix" what "these" and what other cars have you owned with a single projector that does a similar anti-dazzle feature?

There's no real "matrix" possible with a single projector, it's just moving around, that's not really what matrix LEDs represent.

In Australia, these headlights on lci have matrix, just like m2 with same single projector

It’s not actually a projector in the same sense as a hid projector, there is a multi led array behind the lense

As for cars I’ve owned with a single lense/projector with matrix;

Audi rs3 8v, defender v8, Audi s5 had both matrix and laser in a single projector - see pic below, you can actually see the multi led array project onto the headlight cover

US not having matrix on the lci headlight is not due to a limitation on the hardware, but a limitation on your regulations
