M3 not sporty enough?

Hi Guys,

I’m just wondering if anyone else felt like the M3’s are not as sporty as you expected after your purchase. I had a 23’ and 24’ (manuals RWD and always in SP+) and ended up selling both. Don’t get me wrong, excellent cars (first one was a great situation whereby dealer paid me so much to sell it after 6 months) but overall, the car felt big and not as “tight” for lack of a better word.

I’m curious is anyone else had similar feelings after their purchase.

I hit 1.19G lateral today in the mountains. Car is on rails. Insanely fast. Is that not sporty enough? Maybe you should reset your definition of sporty...? Perhaps you need to get the buckets next time to really feel the car.

That’s the thing. I’m
Not comparing it to another 4 door sedan. I was curious if anyone felt that the M3 was a bit on the underwhelming side after a few months of ownership.
Don’t get me wrong, great car and loved the manual transmission.

No. I put 10k miles on the comp x drive and was overwhelmed with the power and rigidity of the chassis (well, let’s say the family didn’t like it and the tickets were adding up).

The manual is the sweet spot. Perfect blend of sportiness, power, practicality.

If you want a sportier car you need to go with the handschalter Z or a Porsche.

That is a common complaint, not necessarily the performance but the overall feel just not being as raw as the f80. Obsessed Garage talks about it in his video selling his g80. I do feel there are a few modifications like the mono ball bushing, and solid toe links in the rear that help bring back that road feel

Had the f80 comp manual. I mean, part of me understands what you’re saying, but the g80 manual is a return to form in some ways even with the valid criticisms. The engine itself is a huge step up as is the chassis.

My M3 Comp feels really sporty to me. My last two cars were Audi (2023 RS6 and 2019 RS5 Sportback) and the M3 Comp is a lot more fun than both of those IMO.

So how do you know what "sporty" is supposed to mean if you aren't comparing it anything?

I have a Carrera S and I didn’t want to compare it to that for obvious reasons hence why I didn’t want to even go there.

I just felt like for example the clutch pedal felt a bit on the “cheap”. Again, the car was great but like another poster mentioned, it was missing more of the raw power. It felt more refined and polished and I was maybe hoping for a more “unrefined” feeling.

Again, great car but was curious to how others felt after some decent seat time in their cars.

Dude should get a car from the 80's if he wants to feel the car, no abs, no power steering, no traction control, no nothing...

I was going to say you're probably looking for a Porsche. In regards to the manual transmissions in these cars, they feel like shit. If the shifting/clutch felt anything like Porsches do I would've opted for a base model rather than a comp

!! Exaggeration, eh?

I’ve driven a lot of manuals, and I would put the clutch and manual feel as one of my favorites, mostly because it’s perfectly BMW to me - comfortable, predictable, solid feeling and insulated. I don’t want a Porsche feeling in my luxury sedan, and the clutch is far better than, say, a Honda or an Alfa or an older Porsche…. modulation is easy and there’s no weird springiness to it.

Out of the box, this car is a great balance of sport and luxury. What I like most is it leans decidedly towards sport while maintaining a reasonable level of comfort and good refinement.

Two things I've done that made a significant impact on adding some feel and sharpness are MP HAS and Millway monoballs. Not that it was lacking to begin with, but both made significant positive impacts with no downside IMO.

Yep and it was by design to be like this after ongoing feedback from mainstream M3 owners.

I enjoy the fact that Manuals across brands & powertains each have a unique feel.

That is the fun of driving an MT they are all different.

If you want a consistent driving experience from a Transmission that would be an Automatic

8.5 is literally going into the G82 right now (25MY) and the G80 LCI in July.

Have any of you tried the G87 M2 manual? I took out some automatics last fall on the track and loved them.

I’m contemplating maybe trying the 25’s that are coming out this year.
