Still dumb to be weaving in and out of cars and speeds of a 100 (although I'd be lying if I didn't do my share of dumb stuff when I was in my early 20's, they passed at the young age of 22 & 23).

RIP.
I wonder if they were driving this way for content.

RIP.

Wow that's absolutely insane. I've never seen a car cut in half like that. The sheer amount of force required to do that is staggering.

Ten years ago an m3post member was killed when his E92 split completely into two separate pieces. I won’t post those photos here out of respect.

I’ve pretty much seen it all. I’ve seen a number of people die who felt they were “professional” drivers or people so young thinking nothing can happen to them. I personally think it’s a dumb move to turn all nanny’s off before even moving your car but to each his own. I get it if your on a closed course but your bassicly rolling the dice to see if your perception of your driving skills are actually accurate. If not we wind up seeing threads like “I wrecked on black ice” or worse as some are not lucky enough to survive.

I doubt there is anyone on this forum who has not done something stupid with their cars at one time or another. I often wonder how I survived my youth!

Just happened a few weeks ago in my town. Brand new 1400 mile Maserati MC20 split in half. Carbon tub, likely the powertrain rear subframe broke free. Guy still died.

https://montgomerycountypolicereport...5-fatal-crash/

Note that this crash is in Houston and there were three fatal accidents the night this M4 crashed. All on the South side. Speed in Houston is insane. We have gigantic highways and if you’re doing 80 on a 65, you’re holding up traffic. The sheer scale of the roads along with how straight they are numbs you to how fast you are going. I grew up in a much different part of the country so I have a better appreciation for it.

I don't get all the animosity towards the accident victims.

500HP cars - big deal. There are mainstream 1000HP+ family cars like Model S Plaid.

100MPH on a highway in near zero traffic late at night - big deal. People drive much faster than that routinely in Germany.

Young men making poor decisions - big deal. Happens millions of times a day.

Humans are humans - always imperfect. We create life unintentionally sometimes (I created two myself), and sometimes we end lives unintentionally.

There is no need to vilify and castigate two young men for making mistakes. I make plenty myself.

My sentiments to the families. I hope you never read some of the comments that were made here.

We all do, and we're simply fortunate that we haven't died from those mistakes, or killed anyone else. But, not everyone is that lucky.

We didn't buy these 500+hp cars to drive the speed limit every single minute we're in the car. And I'm sure there are not a lot of people in these forums tracking their G8Xs so...

And even if you are driving safely now in your older, more mature years, I'm SURE everyone in this forum has done some dumb, irresponsible sh@#! while driving at some point in their lives...and you're simply lucky that you were able to learn from the foolishness. Everyone is not so fortunate.

Weaving in traffic and cutting people off at 100+ MPH is not a "mistake".

I drive in Miami everyday and it's a miracle I come home every night. They fly through red lights don't stop at stop signs. Drive 80 in a 20. Has nothing to do with the type of car. It's the reckless people that drive them no matter what brand it is.

Changing M mode to Sport does not disable traction control or anything else.

It definitely does lane assist and forward collision warning on ID8 though no?

It does disable cruise control (standard or ACC), speed limit stuff and lane change assist, which are technically driver aids so my answer should have been more nuanced. I didn't think of it because those aren't the types of aids we were talking about here (traction and stability control, etc).

Sport does not disable forward collision warning. Track does, along with several other things and the infotainment.

Every single video I see of an M on YouTube has the car with the peel out squiggly lines under it lit up on the dash. Gimme a break…

I do MDM on fun drives. TC full on is annoying accelareting out of corners.

Start the car. Immediately hit Sport M Mode (for better display, tach on HUD, etc) and M1 or M2 depending if it is normal or fun drive. Collision alert is useful if you put it in reduced warning mode, else too many false alerts.

On track - track mode (hit wheel to te-enable screen where I keep tire and mode info) and T/C full off. Haven’t played with the 10 levels yet but will.

Side note: M Laptimer is now a brain dead, embarrassment for BMW.

The problem here is that kids eith money or parents with money buying them these fast cars and have no idea what they have and even taken the time to learn the car. What's worse the eradic driving and recklessness. Go to a track dammit and save your parents heart breaks and tears.
