I just came out of break in. Today I tried a couple WOT launches. With and without launch control. I had a second gear grind. I had a similar issue with my F80 manual. I've read it could be driver error or shift slightly slower. I'm wondering if CDV delete would improve the situation.

Surprisingly, my 0-60 times are no better than my F80 - 4.86-5.0. Although, I'm still learning how to best launch the G80. I have brand new Michelins and the temp was about 45 delgrees. Road may have been damp.

Was it a synchro buzz on the 1-2 shift (or on 2-3 if you started in 2nd)? You go to shift fast and get…buzz!buzz!…then the shifter goes into the gate right.

The MT6 is known to twist the mounts under heavy load. On my F80 it was fixed with Rogue Engineering mounts (easy fix, and under $75 for the parts). I believe the G8X manuals have the same trans mounts, so I would try the Rogues in your case.

It’s the 1st/2nd shift. I’d say it sounds like a synchro. Same as my F80.

Yeah, I had the Turner one on my F80.

Well a little practice helped. Just got 3.96. That’s a full second better than my best time in my F80. I’m sure I can beat the claimed 0-60 time of 3.8.

I have CDV delete on my G82 after break in service. It make a big different from 1 to 2, 2 to 3, 3 to 2, 2 to 1. CDV delete totally worth it.

Wow, a whole second off! Is your car stock?

Only midpipe and Dahler. Launching a manual is always tricky. Between bogging down or spinning it takes some time to get it right. I’ll keep trying. So far, I was quicker without launch control.

Curious who you guys are making an appointment with for the CDV delete and if that's going to raise any red flags for BMW when it comes to warranty work.

I plan on doing some of these mods and was thinking I'd wait until the warranty is up but I'm not sure I can be that patient.

I'm not a fan of how this feels when I want to rip through the gears...

I'm having a local shop to the CDV delete. Honesty, it should be easy enough DYI, but I don't feel like messing with it. I don't think a dealer would be able to tell if the CDV was deleted. There's lots of threads on mods and warranty. It really depends on which mod and your dealership. I have a mid pipe and Dahler and I don't expect that to be an issue with warranty work.

Is only a warranty issue if you go in with complaints about the slave cylinder or clutch.

Yeah, I've noticed this on my F87 when rushed into 2nd gear. Hated that grind!
I've had maybe 1 instance where it was trying to exhibit the same grind on my G82.
Now I just don't shift that fast.
