Although my build (post factory) is still in progress, it's time to share the post I've wanted to share since before I took delivery. Permanent, body-color painted lowers!

Some of you may know that I had the lower black panels wrapped last year. The team I worked with at North Bay Auto Wraps couldn't find a color match in their stock wraps, so they proposed printing Brooklyn Grey onto vinyl. They'd print some samples, then we'd compare them to the actual paint. They'd go back to color variations to get closer, and we'd compare again. After 5-6 hours of this, we found one that looked like the winner. At least it did when we compared it to the paint...under overcast conditions. It was only after seeing it in many different lights that we could see it matched the paint by perhaps 95-98%.

I loved the look so much I wanted to go all in and get to 100%. A vinyl wrap just can't truly replicate real Brooklyn Grey Metallic. This seemingly simple and largely flat color is surprisingly complex and dimensional. So if the wrap was a proof of concept, it told me that I wanted this permanently.

It just so happens that a best friend of mine is also a master painter with two decades of experience. I helped him with all the prep (ton of work!), and he freaking nailed the color. It's like OEM and I love the completed look!

BMW - this needs to be a factory option! 🔥

I think the R44 parts may be what I go with. Are you going for a duck tail spoiler? I think it would really complement the overall look.

I thought about the duck spoiler but it’s a pretty big. I might go for the cs style which is basically right in between the duck tail and stock size wise.

Does anyone with BGM ever have any issues with feeling like the car "disappears" in traffic, since the color is a bit similar to concrete roads/walls? More in the sense of feeling confident other drivers see you and won't hit you (not in the flashy/look-at-me sense).

My wife had a grey C-class once and it always felt like other drivers didn't see us and they'd change lanes right into us/cut us off/etc., probably more than any other car I've driven. With people so distracted with their phones these days I'd hate to give them another reason to hit you.

In my experience no but it’s more so due to size. I used to have a black 350z and I would constantly get cut off, people changing lanes into me especially if I was in someone’s blind spot.

Bg looks more bluish in some pics. I'm on other other side of the fence and want a more silver look. I really like the Silverstone on the prior generation.

Silverstone had a very blue tint in a lot of light.

Yea saw one on 95 in Miami last week. It looked better than some of the bluish looking bg pics posted

My 2016 F82 was Silverstone and the blue tint was my least favorite thing about the color. My first two choices were Donnington then Moonstone, but BMW said no to both.

Yeah, shadowline delete.

Funny thing is when I ordered the car I wanted the shadowline trim, but there was a miscommunication and I ended up with the shadowline delete, which actually looks pretty nice imo so not too butthurt about that.

I was fortunate enough to take delivery of my G80 6MT last weekend. Big thanks to those on this forum that take time to post pics and comments. Not a ton of M3 inventory in my area so was great to learn about various specs and options. I have young kids so backseat was a must and wanted to get back in a manual so M3 was a dream come true. It has been an absolute blast and to those waiting, it will be worth the wait and more. Love the BG and the internet doesn’t do this color justice, def changes w lighting.

Spec:
Brooklyn grey with tartufo interior
6MT
Sunroof
826 wheels in black

Timeline:
Early 2000s: falls in love w the e46, e39. Wants an M car
Dec 2021: allocation received, order in
Jan 10: production started
Feb 2: on the boat to Galveston
Feb 24: at the dealership

And finally, shout out to Max White at Momentum BMW in Houston. He was awesome to work with for those in that live in that area. When looking for an allocation I called 15+ dealers and was consistently talking to people that didn’t care or know about M cars or were outright dishonest in this crazy market. He was honest and helpful whole way through and I was lucky to get the car as quickly as I did.
