2021 M5C to G80 M3C (mostly) fully loaded
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com M3 has everything except CCBs and the big wing (it has the bigger carbon fiber tail). Dark grey with orange leather, driver assist, bucket seats, xdrive, laser headlights, etc. This includes the M performance exhaust, triangle shaped one (I know there are lots of opinions on this but I think it's rather cool personally). I know a lot of this is situational but the major points for me is that I rarely have a chance to let the F90 loose and it always feels rather boring (I'm a bit of an overly safe driver on public roads and rarely get to a drag strip or track). Also I am not a large person and my family is also pretty small. I was thinking of buying a little miada, subi, or civic for more fun at lower speeds and I'm wondering if this one would fit the need. Other relevant points is that I have a car seat for a 3 yr old (perma installed) and potentially one in the way. Would very much appreciate guidance or opinions! |

If it's just to putter around town I'd keep the F90. A G8x won't be night-and-day more exciting at ~35 mph imo. Really just "tickling the balls" of either car. Nice sense of occasion with the CF seats I suppose, you'll have to judge for yourself if you can live with them though. Opinions seem pretty split. I'm a little guy like you and love them, but I've seen other dudes our size feel the opposite.

That's a good point I forgot to mention. I do drive in and around NYC so the smaller size may be helpful. I rarely park on the street though. |

I turned in my F90 for a G80. I loved my F90. Had HREs. Catless downpipes and suspension and some carbon bits and i absolutely loved it. Sounded like a jet engine around town. It was a blast to drive. Got into the G80 and the F90 immediately felt dated. The G80 is a a little more fun to drive. I dont regret my decision but i do miss my F90 as well.

To OP;
Going from the lush seats of the F90 M5 to the buckets in the M3 is going to be a very big change in comfort along with ingress/ egress. Have you spent extended time in the M3 with carbon bucket seats?

I went from a F90 to a G80 as well. The interior is not that much smaller and it is much more fun to drive. Also my G80 with intake/dp and JB4 is faster than my F90 with race chip. The G80 is a beast.

I guess this is all very subjective because I did not find that the M3 was "a lot more fun to drive" than the M5, and if you're saying you drive around NYC a lot the M5 is a better cruiser there imo. I couldn't live with the carbon buckets and that was a big part of the reason why I did the opposite switch. But again both cars are beautiful and fun

I'll go off script
Keep the M5. Get a GTI as a second car DSG/Automatic what ever they are using now. Stage 1 tune. If you can find a low mileage 2021 or newer. Has all the tech It's quick An absolute blast to drive; would be perfect in nyc. Can easily double as a family vehicle I plan to get another one. (My past 2015) |

keep the M5... Get a BRZ or GR86
Fast but slow and you could literally drive it on the edge all the time... Plus they are 30k new with basically everything you need for a fun car at the total opposite end of the spectrum in speed, dynamics, build quality and daily comfort. I myself had a 19M5c and switching to a 23 M3cpx. Had too much equity in the car to hold and wanted to switch it up. Can't go wrong with either just one is more lux with a V8 and has more features, other is a better driver in the curves with a great inline 6. Space wise it's a wash. |

I would also say you should keep the M5 and stick with your original thought to get something smaller and less expensive as a fun 2nd car/toy. You're saying you rarely have the opportunity to open the M5 up, but that would also exist if you got the M3. Buying an almost 4,000lb car with over 500hp is not going to give you the feeling that you're seeking.
Buying a used Miata or Toyota GR86 would scratch that itch perfectly I think. |

Whoever built that car...either a given up allocation or the dealer... definitely built a top tier spec. If you do make the switch, you're getting a very nice example. I still think you keep the M5C given your specific desires, but it's not like the M3C is a huge downgrade.

Edit: Or as other members have suggested, GR86 or ND Miata for maximum safety. |

Stick with the F90. I went from 2019 F90 Comp to G80 Comp and regret it. I got out of it because I hit 50K miles and thought I wanted to try something new, and sometimes missed my old E46 and E36 M3's and the "small car" factor. The G80 is not a small car like older M3's. It feels significantly slower around town because the torque is at a much higher RPM than the M5, despite it not being significantly slower 0-60 or 1/4 mile (of course it's slower, just feels slower than the numbers suggest until you are past 4.5-5k). It's actually not THAT much more nimble around the corners from a daily driver perspective either. The interior, while more updated from the dash standpoint, is markedly inferior from overall luxury feel compared to the F90. The HK sound system is a joke compared to the B&O in the F90 (if you had that optioned). Car seats fit, but with less room (my 2 year old has his feet pushing on my seat if I have it in my normal position, although I'm tall at 6'3"). I miss the trunk space for the F90. The F90 is just such a better daily driver in my opinion. The G80 is a lot of fun around the track. Want very optioned G80? DM me, I'm thinking of getting out of mine

Such great response, thank you all! My 2018 F90 had the B&O but my 21 comp doesn't and I miss it every day . Ive decided to draw a line in the sand: going to pass on the amazingly spec'd G80 unless they lower the price to MSRP (as mentioned they wanted $25k over sticker but dropped it by 15 since I got my last 2 F90s from them). I really like the idea of having both a new car I break in, and a fully loaded M car but a GR86 sounds like a hoot. For reference here is my F90. |
