Since you'd need a manual transmission, anyway, I don't think that would be a problem. I haven't been under, or seen under the car, but the front axles in these "types" of cars, are all integrated into the transmission. I'd like to get a schematic to see how the whole system works, but I've yet to see such a thing.

Thanks OP for getting this to us. I’ve signed the petition for USA delivery and I really hope it happens. Right now I have an order in for an INEOS Grenadier that I would gladly swap to an M3 touring for 2023. Come on BMW AG make it happen!!!

That is much easier than the swap....

But, I think it still might be able to run the AWD??

Many AWD systems now can be turned off and on with a module.

I owned an Audi S4 manual and always thought the ultimate car would be an RS4 Avant Touring with manual, this G81 will be even better, IMO....I have seen some crazy manual swaps and I would definitely expect someone to do the swap and figure out all the mechanicals and software issues.

Issue is the transfer case is most definitely designed around the universal tailshaft pattern on the ZF8. The 6MT does not have a swappable tailshaft housing as it's one piece. On Audis the cars were generally always designed as awd first, this being easily adaptable to whatever configuration is possible. I'm sure somebody with more money than sense will try it but personally I doubt we'll see any AWD 6MT's for a.very very long time

It's seem like the transmission Is the weak link for the M3 the awd system cab handle the torque. The F30 340i had a 6 speed manual/awd combo available so I guess maybe the m-awd might be too sophisticated for the manual transmission.

But again there i'm pretty sure a lot of folks would accept a more basic awd to keep the manual. It's just a guess but it is the case with my 2015 Legacy 6MT which has a very basic awd compared to the CVT version.

I had an E90 335xDrive manual while living in a mountain city/town and was running 400+ hp, it was a blast.

Since then I have had several AWD manual hatches and they are so much fun in the snow = to a track day IMO.
