Kies Motorsports Dry-Carbon mirror caps installed!

I just installed the Kies Motorsports Dry Carbon mirror caps. Kies did an awesome job shipping these out ASAP. I placed the order June 2 and they were delivered June 4.

The quality is awesome. They are full dry carbon cap replacements. The weave looks perfect. Seriously good quality stuff for a very reasonable price.

Fitment is great. The install wasn't bad at all, you just need to be careful when popping off the mirrors. Here are some photos of the caps, the install process, and finished product:

I was wondering how the weave came out on these. I'm too picky about something that's right in your face, as far as carbon goes, so I went with the OEM caps.

Luckily I ordered them from Schmeidmann for like $570 each. What pisses me off about their video, is, you don't need to remove the glass to install the mirror caps.

I just removed my OEM caps, this morning, and did not remove the glass, to install the sequential mirror turn signals. I emailed KIES, I sent him a DM on Instagram, I sent him one on Facebook, and one of his employees replied back to me, and told me that they would let him know.

Then he puts out a video, a few weeks later, of him removing the fucking glass. Don't remove the glass if you don't have to. Pic with the cap off, and the glass still installed.

I didn't mind removing the glass, it really wasn't hard at all. You just need to be gentle and apply even pressure. I liked having access to the 2 tabs inside, I'm always worried I'm going to break a tab so this was useful. But yeah, not removing glass would make things especially easy.

Look good! I wonder where they are sourcing their carbon from. Looks like they do the same "QC" sticker method as some other places.

I think it's really about just getting lucky. WYF broke one of his, and I just dont think its worth the risk, for a $300 piece of glass. I think KIES could have at least mentioned it, for those who don't want to risk popping the glass out.

I've done the same, it's really easy to do with your fingers. You just need to work your fingers as close to the center of the mirror as possible, so you're pulling it out, not flexing it. also helps to put the mirrors angled inward towards the car and down to get a good sized opening to reach inside.

Yes. If you can do it with the glass still in. It's just a safer bet. No one knows how much pressure it takes to not break the mirror. Better than trying to spend more than the mirror caps is worth, replacing the glass.

I ordered carbon fiber mirror caps for my car so I'll be doing the install pretty soon.

How did you remove the cover without popping the mirror off?

Where did you start and did you use any pry tools?

Any risk of breaking any tabs?

Point your mirrors all the way down and all the way towards the outside. If you have a headband flashlight throw that on so you can see the clips inside(two on the top left and right, look at the carbon covers to see where the clips will be), use a thinner shafted flathead to pry the clips(test out flatheads you currently have to see if they fit through the gap you made by adjusting the mirrors), and pull on the mirror housing with your hands at the same time. Start from the outer clip and work your way in.

Just like @///MeraldCity_G82 said, there is room to get in behind the glass to pop the tabs. I found it easiest to get a screwdriver back there, that you could twist, ever so lightly, and it would push the top clip up, and pull the bottom clip down, that the same time, then just pull the cover, one side at a time. Circled in yellow, are the 2 tabs you need to pop to free the cap from the mirror housing.

Not to get off topic but Kies carbon is really nice. I added the side vent carbon on my car and it fits and looks great.

Yep, I went to Lowe's and got the 30lb tape and used some rubbing alcohol and it took me about 20 minutes total to cut the 3m and install.
