Roof rail mounts
Hey forum!
First time poster. Looking at pulling the trigger on a G80 base in the next couple of days. I'm likely to be mounting a roofbox / bike mount a couple of times a year, and I've seen conflicting information about whether the mounts exist on different variants of the roof. Does anyone know if the stock mount-points exist on both the carbon and standard roof? The car will be the last of the 2023's if it helps. Thanks! |

Just don’t.
Please don’t. Maybe we can all chip in and get you a cheap pickup. Think of the children who will see you and the tears streaming down their face. Be kind. |

Why? Because people want to daily their vehicle and use it? Just because it’s a trackable car doesn’t mean it can’t be versatile. Why even get a G80 if you just want a sport car?

Ah, come on - really? Im sympathetic to a point, and these are amazing cars, but I want to enjoy it with my family. I would take a 600 mile road trip in an M3 with a roof box full of my toddlers bulky crap over a 600 mile road trip in an old pickup simply to save face, surely

Can't disagree with this more. Seeing a car like this actually being used like it should is one of the best things to see, imo. You get a

I had the Thule bars, they were great with the racks on. With both of them over 60 it was miserable. I recently put on a 340i hitch that required trimming my diffuser and I’m much happier now. Zero noise and I’m getting an extra 20-30 miles per tank. If you ride as much as I do and travel I’d highly suggest considering the tow hitch. Currently in AL(700 miles from home) riding at coldwater. The ride up confirmed chopping the carbon diffuser was the right move lol

I drive an M3 daily, but I also mountain bike and sometimes need to transport my bike to a trail, so I use the BMW roof rack (I have the carbon roof). The fit is great, but beware of wind noise, its quite noticeable.

The thread is a year stale, but I'm about to pull the trigger on the BMW rails.
I can't believe the heat the OP took lol. Just because I drive an M3 means I can't go on a road trip with my bike? Jeez people... I did try to see how my gravel bike would fit inside the car.... yeah no, not gonna happen. It technically fit, but the risk of damage to all the precious parts is way too high. I don't want to leave the rails on all the time - it would only be for trips when I need one of my bikes. I assume the rails come on and off in less 5 minutes? |

I’d love to do a hitch for my hitch rack but haven’t found a convincing install thread. My Thule rack does make some noise at 40mph. I’ve been thinking about removing them and storing and mounting just for my weekend bike trips. I think it would take 10-15 min to remove/install. Each tower has a bolt to back out that clamps the tower to the fit kit piece then the hex screw into the mount point. |

One of the best things about this car is its ability to be so many different things.
The fact that it can carry bikes or skis or a kayak or even (gasp) a box on the roof only furthers its versatility. Don't get the hate at all. |
