Brakes Squeling

Hi guys, i have annoying brake squeal. The service writer at BMW Ftlauderdale told me it's a common problem with M cars, but how is this acceptable? I love the car but the brakes make me feel like im driving a beat up old car.

Mine sometimes sounds like a train coming to a stop which can be embarrassing. There are many threads stating that this is normal.

Mine squeak on cold days too, but not terrible. Not nearly as bad as my wife's M2C did in any temperature. We pulled her brakes apart and re-greased, they are good to go now.

How do you like the brakes on your F87C? For me, they felt more grabby and maybe too sensitive.

Had my car for just over a month but this weekend the brakes started to squeal pretty bad.
Sounds like a train coming into the platform.

They bite pretty nice. I don't drive it enough to really say but no complaints from my wife so it's probably acceptable for her. She would complain if it were bad in her opinion.

If you track your M2C look for the threshold braking thread. I would recommend the CS or GTS differential and Steering coding too

There has to be over 100 posts on "brake squeal" between here and Facebook groups. I want to bang my head on the desk, everytime I read one of these threads. Just sell the car, and get a Prius.

Some 150-0 stops, and the brakes wont make any noise. I have 3,800 miles on my 22 xDrive and my CCBs don't even make noise, and they're the ones that are known to be bad with brake noise. Get a pressure washer, or go to the magic wand car wash, and pressure wash the rotors off.

Get that trapped brake dust out of there, making sure the drilled holes in the rotors are cleaned out. The rotors get a glazing over them if you don't drive them hard. You have to knock that top coat off of the rotors, every once in a while.

The brake dust gets trapped between the pad and the rotor, like taking a beer bottle, and blowing across the top of it, creating the proper pitch, that makes sound. Knock all of that shit off, with some solid stops.

I've had two F82's and not a peep out of the brakes, cold, hot, clean, dirty, new, old…….
I wanted to bang my head against my windshield as I listened to my £100k car squeal like a banger in town at the weekend at every light or junction.
It's great that your over it but maybe other aren't at the "bang my head on the desk" stage just yet.
I think we've all asked questions on this forum that soon became stupid, boring, already answered a million times or whatever.
Show some love and take pity on all of us who have poor man's rotors 😎👍

The pads are similar, or even the same as the ones on my Type R and my C7, just branded Brembo pads. I stayed on them, and they stayed quiet.

I'm literally going through the exact same thing with my 300 mile G83. This isn't my first M car and none of them have squealed like this one - it's embarrassing. I set up an appointment with my dealership but if all they're going to do is tell me "it's normal" then I won't waste my time.

An earlier post mentioned "grease the pads" - what does that consist of?

Greasing the pads isn't going to do anything. You have to knock the stank off the rotors, sir. Drive it within break in limits, but drive it. You can still get to 120-130 in Mexico, without going over the RPM range for break-in. Pressure wash the rotors, getting the brake dust out of the drilled holes, and run them in a little.

Took this pic of the rear brakes but the fronts are the same. There's some black shit (the glazing, I assume) on the rotors. That's what needs to be knocked off.

Thank you, honestly, it's not so much of researching on here, than to vent about how this is just accepted and not fixed.

The problem with attempting to fix the "noise" that people are only getting when they dont get on them hard, is that when you go with a less dusty compound, you don't get the performance you get with the current pads.

It's one of those things where you have to have either one, or the other, but not both. Do you want the brakes to stop in 96 feet from 60, or do you want to get less dusty pads, and have the car take 110-120 feet to stop from 60? Brembo chooses to stick to the 96 feet, and BMW put them on your track car, for that reason. If you want quiet brakes, we could all just get an 330i.

The thing is if you use them they won't squeak. Don't drive the car like it's a Prius. Take it from 70-20 mph a few time and then come and tel me about how much it squeaks…

I did that exact thing - several hard stops from 60-70 mph. Have only experienced lower speed squealing now. I have more work to do but a huge improvement.

Haha! This sounds like my post on Facebook on the same subject. I just told a guy to stop driving it like a Prius. I'm with you. You have to be on them, hard. I've had at least 6 cars with the same Brembos as the ones on these cars, and none of them have ever made noise. Over 100k miles with these brakes, between 6 cars and not a peep. Probably because I usually drive aggressively. I don't give them a chance to start making noise. People claim the CCBs are worse, so, we will see where mine go. Only time will tell. 3,777 miles in, and not a peep.

It's normal, mine does it. But I have found a little trick that works well, when you're coming to small streets, you can shift to comfort brakes and the squeal goes away, atleast in mine

I like this guy

But exactly you said it perfectly. The only squeaks I have ever had are at low speaks during break in while it's raining

And a few trips to mexico and back fix it real fast
