I’ve Been researching like a mad man. Made like 100 different calls. Third party bmw specialists, bmw service advisors, bmw aftermarket mechanics, etc. this is my final thought and speculation. All third party mechanics stated unless there is a special tool, engine needs to come out for bearing replacement. However, most bmw service advisors/managers speculates it is a simple fix without the engine needing to come out. See the pattern? If engine out I am not going to purchase. Most of the mechanics were hinting, unless you really trust your master tech don’t buy because there is so many room for errors if engine is coming out. Bmw really fu** this one.

Is this issue still limited to about 50 cars? Or is there reason to be more generally concerned that this is a flaw that could impact all M3/M4/X3/X4 cars that use the S58 engine?

Just a short period of S58 production however probably several hundred cars are impacted.

That 50 count was specific to the vehicles allocated for Canada. I dont think we have seen any info on the overall vehicle count.

I'm sure most techs have already done this which lead to the stop sale. Feedback from dealers.

Took my car in today for break-in service to an M center, still no update at all. Clearly its still being assessed, probably still coming up with repair order instruction and a manual for techs. That usually takes a couple weeks. Its what I do for a living...

The other day I was talking to Genius and they said my BMWNA case manager would absolutely be able to arrange a loaner until the issue with the stop sale is resolved, and also implied they could open up a new production slot since my dealership has no remaining allocations. Finally got a hold of my case manager at BMWNA just now. She said that is not something they do and offered no concessions whatsoever. I explained that I turned in my lease last week as soon as my new car arrived and I'm really in a bind due to the stop sale and she basically said "oh well, find a different car." I understand these things happen but the fact that they are leaving me stranded really sucks. Dealership was nice enough to give me a beautiful loaner but only for 10 days. Back to the drawing board.

So my car isn't part of the recall but I feel for all that are. I just spoke to a good friend of mine that was a mechanic for BMW for 15 years and did a lot of these type of recalls. He said "it's not that big of a job and they way they do it doesn't require the engine to be pulled". Hope that helps a little.

Update
Update:
Winslow BMW has been superlative. Gregg (owner) allowed me to place an order for an x6m at $1,000 over invoice. He knows my personality after working together for years that having the engine be replaced or torn out (which is a very high probability), that I wouldn't be happy. So here goes to another wait, again.

How similar/different is this from the E9X M3? This isn't an easy job by any means but is the S58 different where you have to remove the engine?

Ask them for your old car back even if it hasn't been sold. They should do something for you you would imagine |

https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=28122471 I imagine if they fix it this will not appear in the carfax, right? I have thought about requesting a refund and looking for another car in the same price range but there is nothing on the market that catches my attention, this M4 is definitely exactly what I wanted. What will you do? thanks
