The shape of these grills has absolutely nothing to do with cooling...

Please refer to the last photo in the OP which clearly shows that the grill is divided into upper and lower halves by a crossbar. Once you go beneath the stretched kidneys which are only skin-deep, there's nothing here that is vastly different from any other modern BMW bumper design.
Agreed. Can someone just photoshop those dividers so they are the same color as the car thus separating the upper and lower grilles? I'm curious why an aftermarket aero piece couldn't be developed to do just that. Without having to replace the whole front clip. However it may look unfinished because the upper and lower grille shapes were not meant to be separated. I'm curious what it would look like but I'm terrible at photo editing.

You quoted me just as I was adding my thoughts on that too (apologies for quoting myself):

Using the picture below, you can easily envision different ways to tackle the problem. A quick and dirty fix would be some body color wrap on the cross bar and the grill slats that cover it and black wrap on the three uprights in lower air damn. Some composite inserts from IND that achieve the same thing would provide a more permanent fix. And of course a compete bumper replacement would be a more involved but perhaps most eye-pleasing and effective remedy.
Not the first time it has been brought up, but I'm surprised no one has begun illustrating what is possible. IND will be on this, I'm 100% convinced of that.

The latest bumper picture leak only proves what many of us already suspected - this will be a cheap and easy fix.

That's right, it might. But what if our insert is not flat on top like the black crossbar, but instead rounded to make what looks like the bottom of the now-shortened kidney? Someone's going to figure out the best shape and "print it" (or even literally, perhaps). I'll bet you there are aftermarket parts designers working on this as we speak.

It's grown on me, it makes the f82 look extremely dated. People are going to buy it and guys who will talk the most and put it down on here are the same guys driving their old e90's and older who can't afford it.......

There's way too much design mashup here between previous and current gen. This does NOT work at all. I can't believe the 440 looks better.

BMW are paying me to screen shot everyone's comment and play them back in 3 years when we all have one.

The car is a weekend car and does not get tracked, only spirited weekend drives.
If you go to Rennlist, you'll see that this car has been plagued with this issue since they went from larger normally aspirated 3.8 l 6cyl to forced induction small displacement 3.0 l turbo. If you read the posts, new 2020 992 model is still experiencing this.

Granted these are mechanical marvels and no car is bulletproof, however 2 failed water pumps in 9 months and 6k miles is inexcusable for a car at this price point. I never had this problem with a BMW (short of my 2014 F32 fuel pump once probably a 1st year gremlin). Porsche has gad since 2017 to deal with this issue but they can't seem to get their sh*t together. Be warned

Can people post some photoshops of how they would have done it? Maybe with the traditional wide mouth and then smaller side scoop/intakes and F8x sized grille.

Perhaps...

I think the G82 looks good. Would of been better with a wide body like F80.

The F80 will age well just like the e46 M3 and e30 M3. These cars look amazing in stock trim.

Can't wait to see 4 door G80 M3!!!

I'm looking at either the Cayman or Boxster GTS 4.0 manual.

It looks tome like the leaked G82 photo does not have M-style mirrors, or do they?

If that is how it really looks I think they might do a forced refresh of the front after year 1. Will be interesting to see...

This is definitely a watershed moment for the design of the M3/4. Not evolutionary but revolutionary.

No need to get upset at people who are willing to try it on or those who recognize it as a major departure from any recognizable M3 design.

For the first time in my life as a BMW M fan, I simply don't get it...and I'm pretty open minded as things go. My brand loyalty is real and I haven't bought another make in my family for the last 15 years but this changes things finally. I'm not mad just confused by their vision.

Agree.
Design is so weird.
It looks worse vs m440 even.
Everybody who sees it is disgusted.
looks like its missing a part of the front, has a gaping hole.
My kids thought it was a car after accident.

yes they are definitely sweet cars and it handles like its on rails, but still interested in the M4/M3 reveal. I loved my e92 335ix coupe and my M235ix.
Keep in mind, 911 are so hard to do even simple mods and maintenance costs a small fortune (we're so spoiled with BMW). You need to remove the, spoiler, rear entire rear bumper, etc just to do anything. even something as small as a cold air intake or performance air filter. It's insane. But it comes with the territory.

Fyi- they had to remove my bumper and rear spoiler, disconnect exhaust up to the turbos and lower the engine to replace the water pump (twice,)

Personally, love what I'm seeing of the G8X so far...

Anyhow, any theories on why we seem to be seeing two different front bumpers?

The bumper pictured by itself in this thread and the picture of the front on the line have the slanted line in the two lower intakes.

The new leak in this thread and the black and white leak from a while ago seem to have plastic mesh covering that area.

Any thoughts on this? Pure vs. Comp?

The newest leak is definitely not a stripper with those laser headlights, for what it's worth.

Sorry if this was asked and discussed in this thread already, if it was I missed it while navigating the river of tears...

Although the photo is awkward angled and grainy the radar sensor does not appear to have the same faux print over it like the M440 to blend into the grill design. Wonder if that is just a preproduction miss or the awkward shadowing throwing it off. SCOTT26 you have seen the vehicles live... do you know the answer?

It could be different trim levels as you suggest or it could be that some mules are either missing final trim pieces or are using still-not-100%-finalized parts.

Even without the G82

The F82 should look more aggressive especially since it's a coupe
