Silverstone? how is it wearing?

So I came across a car with Silverstone and I’m apprehensive about how light it is. Anyone have long term durability issues with transfer stains from jeans or other clothes. How about just normal oils from your skin causing issues on arm rests?

This has been asked a few times now…

However, I’ll add my reply again. No issues for me after over a year of use and 5,800 miles. It’s my daily driver with two kids in tow. I did get all leather surfaces coated at the outset though so that proteas helped keep in easy to maintain over the last year. I’ve only ever had to do the occasional spot clean when I notice some dirt/dust. Otherwise looks good as new.

10k miles and they look and feel fine. I use a leather cleaner and conditioner every other month for maintenance. Leather is a bit softer than when it was new but that’s expected.

Key is maintaining it and keeping it clean. The worst area for me is on where I rest my elbow on the drivers door armrest. That area gets the dirtiest for me. I swear I’m clean! 😂

Had my car for a year also and interior looks as good as when I purchased it. You would be surprised that a little ONR on a microfiber will make your seats look great.

14,000 miles in a bit over a year, and it's (literally) as good as new. As chicagofan00 states, key is ceramic coating it when new (I did all leather surfaces, including dashboard and never-used rear seat) and keeping it clean (Colourlock mild leather cleaner, in my case, with a Colourlock upholstery brush).

Does dark denim dye transfer to Silverstone leather? Of course it does. Does regular/weekly cleaning remove it completely/easily/quickly? Yes.

The oiliest leather is likely the steering wheel rim, regardless of the color of the rest of our interiors. Over time the original matte finish can become glossy and alternately slippery and tacky. To mitigate, use the same regimen on the rim as light-colored seats: coat when new, then regular cleaning with quality leather cleaner.

I have Silverstone in mine, albeit, I have not had it that long, but I immediately did ColourLock Leather Shield. Helps minimize dye transfer and wear, and makes it easier to clean. Also did it in my truck; light grey/admiral blue seats. I have minimal to zero dye transfer. I keep a small bottle of interior cleaner in the car and hit any spots I see.

I had my detail shop ceramic coat another vehicle with light seats, and it helped. But he said this product (CL) is better and easier to apply; it is, and lots in the industry are getting away from coating leather. Ceramic acts like a moisture barrier and allows the leather to dry out. So I am told. It has probably worn off this vehicle, so will probably ColourLock it.

I’ll contribute too. Regular seat, daily the car for half year and 6000mi now, and with two kids. Didn’t ceramic coat it in the beginning like many other, but I do use Gyeon leather cleaner and leather shield at least once a month on all leather surfaces. I also avoid wearing jeans. The whiteness is still like new, but the part that touches my butt does start to get a little wrinkles. I expected it for any color leather.

Also like others said, the steering wheel is the easiest to get oily. I started to wear driving gloves for this reason and my wife rolled her eyes.

I have 40,000+ miles on regular Silverstone buckets. And I consider myself a bit anal, but not overly so.

I would say that they're holding up decently, but it requires dedication to keep them clean. And I had the interior leather treated with ceramic.

But it's still going to get smudges, random dark marks, and other stuff just from jumping in and out of the car, transferred from jeans and such.....stuff you can't see on your jeans but will rub off on your white seat.

And in the summer, it's more of a royal pain for me, because legs and arms are often exposed, so then sweat, dirt, and lotion transfer onto the armrests (door and center), headrests, and bottom cushions on a regular basis. Again, it's unavoidable. Luckily, most times, just some warm soap and water will clean everything up, but still.

Would I get a full leather Silverstone interior if I had to do it all over again? Yes. But for me, it's not without some occasional frustration and regular maintenance. "Where in the hec did this black mark come from on the passenger seat cushion?????" It happens.

No, they don't like as pristine as when I bought the car, but I'd say they're about 90%. (keep in mind, I'm anal, so I see most every imperfection)

I’m 7,500 miles in and it’s holding up very nicely but agree with others here that you do need to give it some TLC every so often to clean up smudges and dark marks. I use the Gyeon leather cleaner and coating that others on the forum have recommended and they work really well. I would hands down choose full Silverstone again and as I love the contrast it gives the interior and matches well with a wide variety of exterior colors.

Ok, how anal are most of you on getting in and out of your car? I make sure I don't come in contact with my steering wheel and seat bolster. Over time, sliding in will show wear and tear and scratches on wheel.

I have the carbon buckets, so I’m pretty aware of my entry and exit methods and placement.

I'm pretty careful about entry and exit. I use the sit/lift/swing method (sit my ass down, lift myself by grasping the rocker panel and center console, and swing my legs inside). No wear whatsoever on the side bolsters.

I went with Colourlock for the coating (they seem to sell one version of the sealant on Amazon through themselves and another through The Rag Company with slightly different names, both have identical ingredients).

While I also have the Colourlock cleaner, I also purchased the Sonax cleaner with a brush. The Sonax cleaner has easily taken out any marks that have showed up with very light brushing. Far less force vs. using a cloth. I also got a bunch of white microfibers for cleaning/applying the sealant.

Do you not have to do any of this stuff with black leather?
