Big daddies mini cats - do they work?

I have mad catless DPs and 2 big daddies waiting for install. I’ve read so much anecdotal “they do work” and also to contradict “not only don’t work, cause car to go into limp mode”… hoping to hear 1st person accounts of either success or failures with the mini cats.

Of course, the car will be kept in Mexico at our vacation house

Were the folks who say they don’t work, owners here? I have seen that they work as well but not sure if there is a specific pairing with downpipes or some other variable that makes it work or not. Interesting

Just today on one of the G80 FB groups car went into limp mode and they sourced the latest ota update can read the min cats / spacer as culprit. Don’t know if this is true,, kinda case in point the reason of the post. I can live with having to clear out a cel on my jb4 every once in a while,,, but not looking to limp home.

Still hoping to hear 1st hand experiences, good or bad.

Did an ota as well and nothing. That sounds like BS anyway. Everything is running fine on my car with no check engine lights

Thank you bro, exactly what I was hoping
To hear. Do you mind sharing how many miles you’ve put on the set up? Very good news indeed.

That sounds like BS to me too. Unfortunately I can't give you my direct experience yet, but I have some MAD pipes and the mini cats waiting to go in as soon as I can find time. I'll post back when I have something to report.

I ordered them but decided to do ECU unlock so never installed the Big Daddies fix... from my research, it seemed like it was good enough to try (I did a few hours of digging across different platforms)

I have ARM Motorsports catted downpipes with RaceChip and FI Exhaust catback exhaust. Installed downpipes with BDG Mini Cats at about 31k miles. They have been on for about 500 miles so far with no check engine light and no issues to note.

I have the MAD catless downpipes with the Big Daddy mini spacers. I’ve driven about 5k miles since the install and the CEL only came up one time when I started up the car. It stayed on for a day then went away and didn’t see it since. It’s definitely worth getting.

There are a couple products BDG sells and it seems there is some conflation among them. I don't know the difference in effectiveness between the products - straight/90 degree, mini-cat with element vs hollow spacer. I just wanted to point out that experiences are pointless without specifying the exact product, and in the case of the mini-cat, that it was installed correctly.

With that said, MAD catless fatboy with BDG straight mini-cats (spacers w/embedded element) installed correctly with the included washer to prevent crushing the element. No CEL after 1300 miles.

Currently at 10k miles with BDG o2 simulators on MAD catless dp’s. 2 CEL’s, both cleared within a day or so on their own. They were about 4k miles apart so I suspect it happens intermittently at relatively regular intervals.

It should allow for a pass in NY state inspection since the DME genuinely reads a value that does not trigger a CEL. If I had a JB4 or cleared the CEL through a flash tune, my car would fail the OBD2 inspection. We’ll find out in 2 years.

The feedback I get from customers is very positive. I would assume our 200 cell catted version would work even better with them if they ever changed the sensitivity via a software update.

Hey, so I'm trying not to crush the minicat, but even with the original washer plus the extra washer from BDG, the tip of the O2 sensor is touching the minicat well before the O2 sensor is fully threaded on. Seems like 3 washers on each would avoid interference, but i only have 4 total and looking to get the car back together this weekend... Anybody got any advice?

I just installed the big daddies mini cat with MAD downpipes. I had zero issues, I’ve put 200 miles on the car so far and no CEL. I’m hopeful, I had a s4 with a downpipe that no matter what I did the CEL always popped up. So far so good with the m3.

I trusted that the extra washer BDG insisted must be installed was sufficient, so I did not really double check clearance. They are crush washers so I don't know that measuring is enough. I assume there was no interference using 1 washer supplied. All I know is no CEL after 1300 miles which includes 10+ dyno runs on everything from pump 91 to E40 to MS109 race gas. Never a CEL.

They work great. Had them on for 20,000 miles with the mad catless downpipes on my 21 M4 Competion and ran a JB4 as well. Never had a CEL.

Approx. 2k of hard miles on ER Catless with BDG mini-cats and not a single CEL. *knock on wood* There'd be some start ups where it'd stay on a little longer but go away before I started driving. Wanted to ECU flash but I'm waiting until OBD/bench stateside.

For all of you who have had success with the BDG mini cat - did you use two straight or need to use the 90 for either of the downpipes?
