Theyre totally different also both the posches were manual. I plan to daily the m3 whereas the 911T and the spyder i was nervous to drive in snow even with winter tires because they were so light and low to the ground, especially the 718 because it was a GT division product. Porsche wins in terms of nimbleness and steering feel. However the Bmw is more usable as a daily and way faster. I wish i could have kept them all lol. The one car i really miss is the R8 that was a pure weapon

The Tartufo almost has a dark red tint to it, looks good. Same interior I picked for my BSM M3.

Great review and really helpful for me. I have a somewhat similar background (F80, 991.1 C2S, Macan GTS) and currently have a 992 C2S.

I am considering moving to a cheaper car for a few years (fiance, wedding, house). Overall the G80 sounds much more appealing to me than F80, but had a couple questions.
  • Brake Fade - any issues with brake fade on sustained canyon driving? Brake fade was an issue on my F80.
  • Composure on Rough Roads - do you find suspension composure is improved over F80? Beyond daily comfort, my F80 was constantly unsettled by the rough roads I drive.
  • Overall Connectedness - My F80 felt numb and disconnected (brakes were most communicative input). Sounds like same story with steering here. Other than steering, do you find this is improved?
  • ZF Feel - I know you're pleased with ZF shift speed. What about the feel? I hate slushbox feel of all torque converter autos I've driven, including recent BMW ZF.

Not trying to sound like a BMW hater, just my honest feelings after moving to Porsche. I still appreciate what BMW offers for the price point and think G80 seems great.

Other cars I'm considering are Lotus Emira and potentially CT5 Blackwing. Thanks again for the great review!

Great review! While I didn't get an AWD G80 (6mt), I did get Skyscraper Gray and I can't wait for it to get here... was close to getting Tartufo but decided to go KO since I like the black seat centers lol

Nice Review !

I’m also noticed the power drop/lag/whatever when manual shifting in the higher rev range. Idk if that happens in all transmission modes, all the time, above what RPM, etc. Happens for sure at least sometimes though in S3 and sport plus. I’ll have to put in more seat/testing time to figure out if there’s a way around that lag. It feels like it comes off boost momentarily.

Im gonna do some logs and see if i can avoid boost cut and at what rpm. Heres a log letting the car shift on its own gears 3/4/5 white line is boost. If u botch a manual shift (shift lights flashing) the boost cut is way worse.

…. And for the throttle closure questions the car only closes the intake like 30-40% momentarily to regulate torque and its not noticeable while youre driving because the torque curve is table top flat (red line, pk 640 ftlb in 3rd, 620 ftlb in 5th). All you feel is the front of your brain not getting any blood lol. The only way to not get throttle modulation is to get a proper flash and increase the torque limits to 700+ but thats when u run a theoretically higher risk of breaking stuff.

I agree with your comments regarding the Nissan GTR and Audi R8. I currently own a GTR (tuned to 720 hp at the crank) and its a beast. Also owned the Audi R8 Performance which has the AWD Quatro system. Looking forward to receiving my M4 xdrive. Thanks for your review.

They are very close unless you drive back to back you cant really notice a difference in steering feel. The rwd requires less effort but both are waaaay lighter than a gt3 for example. The biggest difference rwd and awd is what you feel through the seat in terms of rear axle information but the awd has so much more grip it doesnt even matter.

Fantastic review! Sorry if this is a stupid question, but, does the xDrive sit higher than the RWD? More wheel gap?

Thanks, please share more pictures of your build. I have not seen G80s in blue with 825M wheels.
In my opinion, looks great.

Just picked it up yesterday, will def post more!

I tried to match everything - so base model with chrome pipes, bi-color wheels and no extended shadow line, leaving more body color parts.

Hey - Wisconsin, just traded my C8 for an ordered M4C XDrive...

I ran the Pilot AS on my C8 last winter and they did great - Quiet, grip like crazy... I'll be going to Costco and ordering a set of these for the M4 too.

You won't regret it!

Any specific reason one wouldn't go for performance winter/snow tires like for e.g. Blizzak LM001? I believe they are considerably more grippier than all-season tires in low temps/freezing conditions, even if one isn't driving in snow. Getting the right size for G8X might be a problem.
