I haven't been able to launch my G80 because I'm still in break-in, but watching other videos it seems the RPMs go right to a specific point and pretty much sit there. I would assume that BMW engineers picked that rpm to where the car is building optimum boost but maybe it only holds it for a set period of time? |

Max torque comes on at 2750 and stays flat to ~ 6000. It would seem launch control would hold above that rpm. I think boost would build in less than a second, otherwise it wouldn't be max torque.

Drag launch is where the ZF8 really excels. It doesn't have a clutch to disconnect the power flow. Instead you have the engine fighting the brakes, during that two pedal push launch, which loads the engine heavily. This definitely builds start line boost in a way the DCT just couldn't.
Imran, it sounded like the car did some double gear changes in quite a few of the runs, but not all. I think you commented on a strange shift. Was it double shifting? |

Interesting... this is how the Audi launch control system works, you hold it after LC is active and you can see the boost bar fill up.

Yeah my Aston (zf 8hp75) short shifted on launches also but usually 1-2 not 2-3 (or 3-4) cant remember which one you had. But thats crazy because that means the bmw was spinning in higher gear its a beast. How good is the surface on that track it look pretty sticky but just curious. I recall you mentioning its not great

to be fair in the south of the UK summers days are normally 75f - in the last few decades they have been recently 'hot' 90f is pretty common - and in London last year we had a few 100f days with 6 days over 95f in a row.
at the moment its crap - jet stream is buggered by the insane heat in the pacific north west so they say. Can't imagine 50c i'm a part time weather man due to almost daily cycling, not a fan of wet weather rides |
