Arrow How To: Disable ASD on 2023 ID8 G8x cars

I've been looking for a solution on how to disable ASD on my '23 G80 M3.

The problem is that when you do it the old way via Bimmercode, it doesn't work. Just setting ASD to "disabled" does nothing.

However, there is a slightly more involved way of doing it:

  • In Bimmercode, navigate to "Receiver Audio Module RAM"
  • There, you select "Expert Mode"
  • In Expert Mode, you select "3001_Audio und ASD"
  • There, you find all options starting with "ASD" and set them to "disabled" or "nicht aktiv"
  • Exit Expert Mode
  • On the bottom of the screen, tap "Activation Codes"
  • Find the one labelled "ASD" and select "Deactivate"
That's it, no more annoying ASD

Does your '23 have iDrive 8 or iDrive 7?

After I tried disabling ASD the regular way and realizing it didn't work, I tried this. Although it looked a little different in Bimmercode for me, specifically, in step 4 there are no options for "disabled," only "inactive," also for step 6, when exiting expert mode, there's no "acivation codes" anywhere to tap so I just hit "code" on the top right. It said coding complete and if I go back in and check the values I selected as "inactive" it all stuck. But I can still tell ASD is on because there is a rumbling in my sub when I start the car from the ASD. Any suggestions?

Does this actually work? Does bimmercode work with ID8 correctly?

Thanks for the walk through, did the same this morning and think it worked. Will recheck later if it kept the setting

Did you confirm if it worked for you? I went through the steps above and it looked like it worked in Bimmercode but turns out the fake exhaust rumbling was still coming through my sub. I haven’t tried it again, maybe I did something wrong. My process in Bimmercode didn’t exactly track what the OP posted.

Just checked, all still off so it worked. I deactivated all that start with ASD, then returned until the first time "code" showed up. Hit code and then exited the app until disconnected and all good.

Yeah, that's what I did too and it didn't actually turn it off for me even though it says so in the app. Could really only tell by listening to the sub and toggling the exhaust sounds.

You are right, it still comes from the subs at sport engine mode. But it is all switched off in the app.

Do we have another option? Thats super annoying with the amp and sub upgrade

Just dug that out from my trash. What did you do the first entry? IIRC there was something else to set but didnt know what it was for and didnt want to touch.

Any other setting we could try?

I tried the first entry both ways (left it as is and changed it). All it does is pump ASD through all the speakers if you change it - way worse obviously. I didn't know what else to try either, other than that.

Will look into a few settings today. I read somewhere that closing the flap with the button in the console disables ASD. Will try if that has an effect on sport plus for the engine, maybe that would help until Bimmercode can code ID8. There seem to be some controllers you can buy to keep the flaps open, wonder if that would work keeping ASD off.

Bottom line: it is super annoying, this drone inside actually hurts my ears and takes the fun out of driving in sporty settings.

Pretty sure you can alleviate the drone in the sub with the button but then you lose all fun the burbles etc. I drive in sport plus all the time so I'd rather do that and deal with the ASD shit until someone figures it out.

Update from Starbucks after driving. Turning off the flap in the consol helps, there is no more ASD. I changed my M1 to flap off and kept the engine on sport plus. It is quieter and I didnt hear any burbles yet, but car wasnt really hot or driving it hard.

Turning the ASD off with the button also cancels the burbles.

I don't care for the burbles so best setup I found on my past M4 was running the exhaust button off and bypassing the valves open with a valve controller linked to the garage opener.

The good news is the valve controller can be ordered configured to start deactivated so I could have the quietest setup with exhaust button off and could use the OEM system to get burbles and then I could switched the valves fully open with the controller weither I would want the OEM burbles/ASD or not.

So with the valve controller, you get the burbles and all the previous gimmicks without the ASD?

Do you have the standard HK system? Aftermarket amp and subs make it unbearable, it is too loud inside so I actually have to go the other way, keep it off until we can code it out. It is ok in comfort keeping it on for now. Just wish the exhaust would be louder, guess a midpipe has to find its way under the car or just the resonator delete...

No if you have a valve controller but still want the burbles you still have to endure the ASD to have them. It seems now burbles are paired with the ASD. You probably already know that burbles are kind of fake noises that are programmed into the engine tune. I don't think there are many engines still around that produce some burbles/pops or bangs naturally.

It was the same with my 718, only way of having burbles was in Sport mode, confort and sport plus produced none. At least there was a fuse easily removed for the ASD in that car.

I have whatever the upgraded option is, but it is HK. I don't have anything in the cabin amped, only the JL in the trunk. It's annoying but not unbearable. I feel like it affects the sound quality because the sub is producing the BS exhaust sounds while simultaneously trying to produce music.

I have a catback exhaust so it obviously helps with the exhaust sound, but I still like the burbles even though they're just fake sounds too, but at least they're coming out of the exhaust and not a stupid speaker.
