M3 Waiting Room

Hi,
I ordered today my 2023 BMW M3 Competition xDrive - full loaded. We have 2 dealers here in the area. BMW of Naples and BMW of Ft. Myers. The first dealer (Naples) wanted 5k over the MSRP with a refundable down payment of 5k. The delivery time should be 6-8 months. The second dealer wanted to have a refundable deposit of 2.5k - no over payment and told us a delivery time of 3-4 months. I think both dealers are reputable, as they have been in business for over 20 years.

The whole thing surprises me very much. Are 3-4 months realistic?
I am not in a hurry, because I expected a long wait anyway. But if the car can be there in 4 months, I'm happy.

What are your experiences?

Good luck to you. I've been waiting 7 months and counting.

Others, longer.

Placed order in March and got an allocation in July. From what I’ve read, I think this was just about best case scenario at MSRP.

If they can deliver at those timetables at MSRP that's about as good as it gets.

I ordered my M3 November of 2021 and picked it up the second week of March 2022. I'm in southern California for reference.

I got my allocation in March and got the car in June. But I've waited 3 months just for the allocation.

Anyone that tells you that you’ll get your new G8x within four months is blowing smoke up your you know what!! If your name is Joe Achilles or Smee then maybe, otherwise most likely not. 5 1/2 months minimum if you’re looking at a G82/3, 6 months plus for a G80. If you go into the process with reasonable expectations in terms of wait times you won’t be disappointed by making yourself crazy wondering where the hell your car is!! Trust me and other members on this forum, we’ve been there and done that! Good luck!

You should add to your question - is there anyone here who got the car within 4 months RECENTLY.

many people who were ordering late last year were on shorter wait times, but it seems the wait times began blowing up this year, and the wait for a G80 has gone up quite a bit. So the dealer estimating a G80 in the timeline they quoted you, are just looking for your deposit money.

I got my allocation right away (found out about an available allocation on Bimmerpost). I got the allocation beginning of May, and my car is scheduled to be at the dealer this week. Total wait time of 3 months. This is for an M4 xdrive, which is easier to come by.

My signature has exact dates as for the status of my pending M3. Currently still waiting for an allocation/production number.

Originally I was told I was #1 on their MY2023 wait list when I placed my $3,000 non-refundable deposit back in March, and I've only changed my original order once (adding full leather). I also have a signed P&S stating the vehicle at MSRP.

Since my G80 was ordered in early June, I've been offered a purple Jahre and a SPY MY2022....I declined both.

My trade is a paid off low mileage 2020 Porsche Macan GTS, and I'll be paying the remainder in cash.

From looking around the 4 month timeline is quite possible if that dealer has an allocation with a build week in August.

Got on wait list end of May as #4 and got my allocation in July for build week 37. The dealer was pretty certain I will get it this year and if lucky he told me could maybe even get it near end of October.
So as long as your dealer has an allocation with build week close by i think its possible

I can only tell you my experience ordering my G83 convt. I do understand that M3's seem to be taking the most time of late. Here's my timeline.

1. My dealer got an unexpected allocation for a 2023 G83 on June 14th. He had no wait list for a G83. I went in the next day and built it. Production week already set for the week of July 4th (27th week)

2. Built the week of July 4th.

3. Four days later at the port.

4. Sat at the port for 16 days.

5. Currently on the boat. ETA Baltimore 8/10. Without any unexpected delays at VPC my total time from order to in my garage will be slightly over two months.

Why would your deposit (not allocated yet) be non refundable?

If the dealer keeps sliding you down the allocation list, you're stuck.

You can wait for weeks or months for an allocation and every situation is unique. Add 3-6 months after you receive an allocation.

Here is my timeline with dates.

That's how most higher end dealerships work in my area when ordering vehicles. You either place a deposit, or you don't get added to their BS waiting list....simple as that.

Yep, I'm at their mercy, and so is everyone else put on a dealers wait list....so you better be damn sure you want the vehicle before plopping down the non-refundable deposit.

Wow that's too bad but I guess in certain areas, they hold the cards.

Good luck!
