I have an allocation and ordered an M3 CX still in status 111 , and can be modified to RWD, i live in michigan it snows here for about 3 months and was wondering if i should still go with xdrive or rwd i know that the xdrive can be switched to rwd but for one rwd is $4100 cheaper and saves weight what do you guys think can a rwd m3 drive in the snow with winter tires or should i stick with the Xdrive (not a awd and rwd debate) just asking for opinions on what makes more sense
(i do drive year round and will be daily driving it) |

Do you prefer manual or auto?
Do you drive it year-round? All personal preference. I'm not far from you in Ohio, but I have only ever driven my M3's from April/May through October then it gets put up. But, I also have a Tacoma thats 4x4 for the winter + salted road months. I also prefer manual over auto, so for those reasons, I went with a G80 manual. Good luck and congrats on the allocation! Just got mine as well and sitting in 111.

I'm getting RWD 6mt and I live in Maine. Will be my only car. Proper snow tires and responsible winter driving and it will be fine.
That said, AWD is objectively better. I wanted the 6mt more than I wanted AWD tho. |

I'm so glad someone brought up the issue of AWD vs. RWD... feel like it's not talked about enough.

If you want a daily and live in snow country, go with the AWD. The $4100 you save with the RWD will come back to bite you when you try to sell it. Currently the resale value seems to be good for 6MT or M3C Xdrive. The RWD version seems to be inbetween and doesnt seem to elicit a good resale value for whatever reasons. If you are going with winters anyways, just pay the extra $4100 and you are all set. AWD also help with rain and slick roads. So you have the best of both seasons.

Manual RWD if you prefer manual obv.
AWD if you want the better car which can be put into RWD mode anyways. RWD elitists like GS1403 who will never push their M car anywhere close to its limit shouldn't influence your decision. |

awd is better for your area
rwd with snow tires is doable but not as good as awd with winter tires even you might get away with putting UHP all season tires and use them year round with no issues. Not as good as a set of snow tires and summer tires , but you avoid the switching around of tires I did that with F90 M5C and E63 S AMG for few years and no issues . In you favor, in Michigan the land scape is flat |

Why is it even a discussion? It's MXDrive so you can have RWD fun whenever and the security of AWD whenever. Yeah it's a little heavier but not even a full-grown adult weight heavier

If you don't want the stick, go with the xDrive. I drove both comp models at BMW's Ice Driving in February. Didn't get much time in the one xDrive they had. The RWD one was "okay, this is the next M3/4 and it's nice." The xDrive one was immediate "holy sh!t, this is a monster!" I wasn't the only one that promptly went home and put my name down for one.
