Used M car market

Anyone see the reserve not met G80 auction on BAT yesterday?

Seems like there is a market correction underway.

Supply is certainly not aligned to demand today, though that may change in the very near future.

Garage List
2015 Yamaha FZ-09  [10.00]
2018 BMW S1000XR   [9.83]
2018 BMW R1200RT  [10.00]
2023 BMW X4  [7.88]
2022 BMW Z4  [9.78]
The market is INDEED correcting.

There are fewer buyers, buyers walking away from prior orders and supply is steadily increasing.

The cars with higher pent-up demand will be the last to correct. And I think it's safe to say that most of the M models fall in this category. But correct they will.

I've been watching a certain M model I'm interested in and while the number of new units listed for sale on Autotrader has gone up 50% in the past 54 days, the number of available units (on the ground, unsold) has gone up 95.4%.

If you can wait to buy, I would wait....unless interest rates will impact you, then you'll have to do the simple math.

It’s only a matter of time. To think that a used car is worth more than MSRP a year later is just absurd. Sure, plenty of suckers have been paying it, but market will correct and go back to reality.

Agreed it’s bizarre. I’ve seen same M3s on auto trader for 6 months now.

I'm somewhat surprised there has been zero mention of the BAT car on here or any of the FB groups.

Here is the link btw (I only found out about this because someone sent it to me this morning).

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2021-bmw-m3-7/

I don't think it's an atrocious result. I'm somewhat surprised it went RNM. 67k bid, 70k+ with BAT fee. Sticker was 76k. It doesn't seem horrible to see that car trade around 70k, 6k less than sticker, 2 years old, half way through the warranty, no lasers, no full leather, no exec pack, no ID8.

Given where the economy is with interest rates, etc. I would've thought you would be seeing these lower by now.

So glad I traded my f80 in rather than giving it a shot selling myself.

I spoke to the seller. They want $75k firm...I thought $67k for a 2 year old base model was generous, taking supply and demand into account.

Expecting to sell your very-typical M3 for $1K under MSRP two years after you bought it is just unrealistic, especially when factory incentives like Loyalty, Corporate, OL, BMWCCA or Military mean you could pay a good amount less than that for a new one.

Basically the next 3 days before the year is over will be the best opportunity to buy a car on the lot, pressing for a discount on top of rebates, etc. and push for a higher trade if you are not selling privately.

End of year incentives and goals are important to any dealership.

This ^

Dealer gave me a corporate rebate even though it specifically said M3/M4 models were excluded just to get the sale through before the end of the year.

I posted this in a different thread yesterday, there is a M4 on a lot in AL, and a few in transit which may not have an owner claiming them anymore.

A link or dealer name would be very helpful.

As for that M3 on BaT, I think missing the executive package is what hurt it. I would have bid on it, but for that.

I'm still not finding much inventory for M3 w/manual, but a few M4s have popped up. Working on one myself, now. Fingers crossed!

I put a bid on that M3, but I wasn't willing to go as high as they wanted. It wasn't quite the spec I wanted, so I wasn't willing to pay as much. The executive package wasn't a big deal to me. An HUD seems very redundant on a car that already has two screens showing the same information. Your eyes will have to re-focus from the road to the info either way. I didn't like that that car had M825 rims. I was really disappointed that it wasn't full leather. I feel like full leather is a must because it makes the interior seem way nicer. I kind of wanted the carbon exterior package, too, but I could live without it if I got a nice deal. No laser lights was a bit surprising, too. I think they're a really popular option?

I think that build is about 79k for a brand new 2023 with id8. It's a nice car, but I wouldn't put down 75k for it. The car does have front PPF on it, so that's kind of nice. Weeks later I blew 89k on a car that I really wanted!

And I found a car! I'll create another thread about that, once the key fobs are in my hot little hands!

So... congrats on the car, which I presume has HUD. What do you think of it now?
