Introduction from X5 convert to G82
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com https://www.bmwusa.com/build-your-ow...k1vpqv/summary Doesn’t look like I’m going to get a dime over $80k and best I’ll do is full MSRP (most dealers marking up and/or adding required dealer installed “options” yes an oxymoron!) on a 6 month plus lead time for delivery. At any rate, still thinking through the “right” decision so will likely be on here lurking, learning, and asking! Rob |

Unless you trade in the X5 pretty fast, I wouldn't expect MSRP. Used car prices are dropping (finally).

Uggh, now dealer has let me know someone just backed out of m4 allocation for September build and I can take it. Decisions!!!
Do I trade in my $88k X5M50i for $80k 11 months into ownership? Do I wait another year? Do I sacrifice the ride comfort of my x5 for the fun of the m4? Real 1st world problems here, but soliciting all feedback from folks to consider |

I had an X5 but not an X5M. I had a long wait for an allocation so ended up getting an M440 while I waited. I have no regrets moving from an SUV and it got me even more excited for my M4 which is built and "at the port".

If you think a 9% drop in value on a year old SUV is unreasonable, you won't be able to trade it in a year on an M4 because your X5 is going to be worth a lot less. |

Your X5 certainly isn't going to appreciate in this market.
Does anyone even remember the old days of buying a new car and having it depreciate 20-30 percent the minute you drove off the lot (obviously some models excluded - but this used to be the norm). Unless you were paying cash, or literally had cash to burn, it used to be that buying a car meant a fairly long time commitment or a rapid lightening of your bank account. If your X5 is leased - have you considered lease trading it? Deals made a year ago are a lot more valuable in today's dollars because the residual values are falling and the money factor is rising. I'm also waiting for an allocation (was going to go back to a M3C after selling my M5C in the spring of this year). I got the allocation last week but declined and have decided I'm going to skip the G80 entirely as I just don't love it enough (I am however, ordering another F90). In the meantime, I leased a F97 - which I'm hoping will be an easy lease assumption by the time my F90 goes into build. M3Cx is an awesome car - but if you've not spent a lot of time in one - or maybe put another way - if your priority is not 90 percent performance / 10 percent luxury - you might be disappointed. I'd say your x5m50 is more like 60 / 40 lux / performance. (not a bad thing if that's your thing). For me - the F90 M5C is more like 60 performance / 40 lux - and that's exactly what I need anymore. The F97 I'm tooling around in is trying to be an 80 performance car - it's not, but it sure is harsh as sh!t for trying.

Exactly. Now is the time!

OP, if you don't need the utility of an SUV, I'm sure you'll enjoy the G8x a lot more! |

Thanks everyone for the advice. I’ll likely move on something quick, but now also getting some pricing and info on a M5 option too. Talked with my tax guy, advised me to really consider leasing to capture some tax benefits as w9 contractor. We’ll see

I've owned/leased a lot of BMWs, in a lot of shapes and sizes. I most recently replaced a loaded G05 X5 xDrive40 with an M4 Competition xDrive.
Sure, the X5 was more spacious and rode more comfortably than the M4, but there's no comparison in driving involvement and pride of ownership. We already have one SUV, so I could get away with something less practical. If you're in a similar situation, pull the trigger while your X5 is worth as much as it is and your dealer has an M4 allocation. |
