That absolutely sucks but I'd encourage you to read the rest of the thread to see why it almost certainly didn't need to deploy/wasn't a design flaw.

Yes, people's obsession with seemingly wanting the airbag to have gone off, even if it was unnecessary is bizarre. You do not want an airbag hitting you in the face unless absolutely necessary.

SRS has obviously continued to make great strides since the first airbag was available in a passenger vehicle, including the system determining when, and perhaps just as importantly, when not to deploy one.

Glad you’re okay OP.

In regards to another car - there are near endless options. Life can be short, perhaps look into a car that you’ve always wanted but always thought “maybe later”. If the G82 was always that car, then you have your answer.

If my car got totalled tomorrow, I’d get into another G80 but perhaps a different paint. There is no other 4 door car with a 6MT, lovely interior, and the enjoyment of an M3 ownership wise (community, mods, events like MPACT, etc). Being the owner of an M4, it means you can look into other 2 door cars like a 911, Lotus, Cayman, C63S, etc.

It’s a good reason to go out and test drive a car until you find something you like. If you can’t, then again, you might need to get another G82. Good luck!

Thank you! I came from a 17 C63 and loved the sound but it was very creaky inside and I felt its weight when driving around. I am likely going to stay in BMW family due to current situation in life(single, building career, etc) but the 21 M5 has caught my attention as well the M8….. my understanding is these are great for straight lines but not as “light on their feet” as the G8X and also are due for a refresh….. staying in the G8X family id likely want something loud color wise and interior wise as the gray on black is a color I’ve always gotten stuck with in the past

-2005 G35 Gray on Beige
-2014 M235i FBO Gray on Black
-17 C63 Matte silver on black(paint was a huge stressor since I drove highways often)

Need to get out of the gray/silver lol!!!

Similar story with me and moonroofs. Had an E46 with one from 2000-2012, and an E90 from 2012 through today. Parked outside >95% of the time. No leaks, ever. Not even the one time I left it vented during a rainstorm.

Glad you're alive with your braincells intact!

I like my G80 IOMG. I would buy it again if I needed; probably would get the brown seats this time, tho!

I imagine his current seats are brown, regardless of what option he chose.

Sorry this happened but happy u weren’t badly hurt. I just had an accident on 11/12/23 in mine & weirdly enough mine also had front end damage, airbags did deploy & it was also deemed a total loss. A head on collision at speeds of over 30mph with that much damage & the front airbag not deploying definitely sounds questionable. If you have a lawyer, I would have him looking into faulty equipment. With all the microchip shortages they were experiencing who knows if corners were cut somewhere. IJS. But look at my front compared to ur front. Front, knee & curtains deployed. It’s seriously worth looking into.
One more thing I read after I posted this is, u bought the car used from a dealer. The car may no longer be available for an inspection, but here’s something else to consider if u are going back to same dealer. Ask about the parts if the car is used. I’ve seen quite a few posts of banged up F82/G82’s & urs is one of the worst I’ve seen. The carbon fiber parts don’t usually fail so catastrophically. It makes me question whether the parts were replaced & whether the dealer is trustworthy. I’m jus a girl but I know a little about a little…google some accidents & see what the cars look like.

3) The vert top is one continuous piece of cloth without any gaps except around the back window, the gap is ridiculously tight with a lot of border and glue around it, I doubt it'd leak in any appreciable amount of time. Absolutely not in the time OP would probably own this car.

4) I'm pretty sure you're in my area, I put the roof down almost every day during the spring/fall and in the cooler parts of the day in the summer. It's really only the winter that I wouldn't have it down all that much, and on warmer days you can do it if you find yoursel fin that situation.
Second this.
I drive with the top down almost all the time. But I live in the deep south and can run to down pretty much year round. I'm fact had it down today. Would 100% get a vert again in IOMG. Only this time I'd try to push even harder for tartufo buckets now that I see that they can be had

So few people seem to realize this. I new someone who had to have multiple reconstructive surgeries after her airbag literally shattered the bones in one of her forearms (while probably saving her life).

Just sort of curious, what video were you able to recover from the BMW 'few seconds before and after' cameras. Useful at all ? I run a full time Blackvue, but wondered about the built-in systems.

I actually did not get a chance to go to the car to see if it had even recorded anything. Her insurance has claimed liability so I guess it does not come in handy here. But surprised the car does not record and upload somewhere. That would be ideal in a case like this where the car gets towed and taken away "forever"

I removed the car from myBMW app today and hoping it wipes the car of my profile.... kinda creepy if it doesnt lol

It'll disconnect itself from the car with the real-time connection, but your account is still loaded on the car. Whoever gets the car next will almost certainly wipe the system before using/selling it, so I wouldn't worry about it. They can't make any changes on the account using only the car anyway.
