G80 M3 good daily?
Considering buying a new 2022 M3 manual. I know it’s a great car to have fun in but is it a good daily driver https://vlc.onl/ ?

I would say yes if you won't be spending too much time sitting in stop and go traffic. The clutch is soft and easy to operate, but it will get boring being in a fast car sitting in traffic. The base seats are very comfortable, the trunk has decent capacity and the car is easy to park even without parking assistance gizmos.
The suspension is comfortable and will absorb most of the bumps on the road. |

Yes. My wife dailies our manual G80 and she loves how comfortable it is. And the availability of power brings comfort of mind when merging or passing.
I use it on the weekends for Costco trips and track days.

I’m always curious as to why people think an four-door M3 sedan wouldn’t make a good daily, and manuals were the norm for a long time

I've daily-driven manuals for 25 out the 36 years that I've had my license, including my current 6MT G80. A difficult clutch can make it problematic, but the G8x clutch is far, far from a difficult clutch. Even in bad traffic, this manual is not tiring. And I'm old and easily tired out compared to when I wasn't old. All the mod cons on this thing made it an utter breeze to deal with.
Even in traffic, having a manual gives you something to do other than just be annoyed by traffic. |

I'll echo the others here and say this thing is a great daily, manual and all. The clutch is forgiving so stop and go traffic can be managed easily, often by one pedal. You'd have to be actively trying to get it to stall. I have the ventilated sport seats, they are very comfortable and easy to get in and out of. No surround cameras as my car was born during COVID, but even so its fairly easy to park once I figured out where to aim the fender flare when reversing. 4 doors, back seats big enough where I can sit behind myself easily, and/or fit car seats. Trunk is spacious too. Torque comes on pretty low so while puttering around at city speeds you still have some get up and go. If you drive faster than 85mph 6th gear can start to be a little annoying on the highway. Overall a solid 9/10, would recommend. Docking 1 point for the subpar HK stereo system and the fact that you can't get a 6MT with xDrive.

Let's put it this way:
It's a 4 door sedan. Rear seats fold 40/20/40 Has cupholders Modern infotainment including ACP and AA, streaming, sat. radio, etc. Can get HUD Base seats are supportive enough while being easy to get in and out of Can get sunroof Clutch is not heavy. Engagement is a bit.....eh? But smooth enough Plenty of power for passing Suspension won't beat you up (looking at you F80 M3) Good visibility, ergonomics Unless you need hatch / wagon, or carry more than 4.5 to 5 people....what else do you need in a daily? EDIT: Rear cupholders would be nice! Quote:
Ugly color combo still sitting on a dealer lot? Or maybe dealer demo / corporate vehicle never titled, still "new" as in never registered but has miles on it? Last edited by Needsdecaf; 09-18-2023 at 09:42 AM.. |

I got stuck in stop and go traffic for 1.5 hours the other day and I didn't find the clutch troublesome. As others mentioned, you don't need to ride or slip the clutch at low speeds.
The only thing disappointing thing found was the HK sound system sounds was less full and as good as the one in the x5m--which is expected, but other than that, the M3 6MT would make a great daily. |

It’s great compared to sports cars. It’s a pretty rough ride on the factory 19/20 compared to a luxury car in its price range. There’s no other manual sedan on the market as reliable and fun.
I need a manual rwd car to be motivated to leave the house. I found myself being much more of a homebody when I tried some auto luxury cars that still have balls. I’d prefer the comp with radar cruise control, wallet key and few other amenities. 50/50 chance it would be gone in less than 6 months like my s580, s plaid, panamera. I’d daily my s2000 if my back could handle 10 hour drives. |

Awesome daily. This is the M3’s core mission. If you want a manual (and I only drive manuals) then there is arguably nothing better near the price point.
I love hot hatches and similar tarted up economy cars but they all lack the quality, luxury, features of the M3. |

Yep, it's great. I daily mine and that includes taking my son to and from daycare. Gas mileage is obviously not great, but that's to be expected.

Mine is a "daily", actually, only. I drive mostly in a city with lots of hills and parking problems. The MT and buckets are not a problem for me. If it's your only car, you use it for hauling crap to the dump or moving firewood, but it only will hold a quarter of a cord.

I've done 300 mile round trips in them. I've also sat in stop and go traffic in them. Yes, I truly love the buckets!

Mine is my daily, Porsche is for the weekends. The OEM roof rack makes it super versatile. Perfect match for me.

I was worried if it would be a good daily driver as well...but I took the chance and traded in my 2023 330i for a 2022 M3comp....damn I should have done this earlier. It is a great daily driver....do it and don't look back

I would definitely try to live with them in a CS. And I'd opt them in a M2C/CS, (but that's a coupe, which makes it easier to get in and out; and that wouldn't be a daily for me). Buckets just aren't ideal for daily use. Here's a bucket seat rant for those who want to hear it: Getting in and out is more difficult with buckets. That can't be argued, but you can argue about what's acceptable. How difficult is acceptable for a daily? What can you live with? What can your passengers live with? Do you ever drive with colleagues/clients/customers? Your wife? Are you trying to lose half your stuff? I see some bucket people setting their bucket seat memory 1 to their "driving position", while memory 2 is set to their "getting-in-and-out-position". FYI, there is no memory 3 for "getting In-And-Out-drive-thru position" in case you need that. Even having done that, if you're short-legged, your feet might not touch the ground when you "roto-scooch" to get over the bolsters. This would be super fun if you park in the snow or in icy areas. Like watching an old Chaplin film or Looney Tunes, or Bambi. In some ways getting in and out is more difficult if you are taller. Memory settings aren't an option because you can't move the seat forward enough for the backrest to clear the B pillar without bending your knees a lot; possibly having the wheel get in the way... Eliminates your chance of being a memory-button-person. Phew! Why would you want to do that every time you get in and out of the car anyway? Simple answer from those who do do that, is that it's simply too difficult without it! Easier in a coupe (M2, M4) of course due to B-pillar position and thus freedom to roto-scooch, but we are talking about the M3. This is all more difficult in tight parking spots/garages. Gone are your chances of gracefully slipping through a narrow gap in a slightly-opened door. Better put some padding on your garage wall! Don't get me started on the part of the seat that goes between the thighs. Works well for track, but is it necessary? Porsche doesn't need this on their buckets. Not friendly if you like to adjust your posture or leg positions when driving. Also can be in the way of the clutch, but you get used to that. They also don't have ventilation. Minor point, but worth making. All that said, you are not wrong to go for the buckets. It's about what you want. They certainly feel special and they make the car seem more exotic. They only cost a few thousand more as well.
