What is this?
Hey all, maybe someone knows. I haven't had time to really take a look because I was in a rush but after coming out from the store I noticed this hanging. Is this normal? Anyone know what it is? Have my break in service scheduled for next week. A 22' M3 manual

I am assuming your referring the the black shark fin thing? Thats is for aero to direct air... While at speed for cooling and or for underbody aerodynamics

Yes that. Never noticed it before. Every vehicle has this sticking out?

They're there to direct small vermin away from the spinning driveshaft.

Great video! Love all the explanation. Makes me wonder if all these bolt on lips and spoilers might actually hurt the airflow and cooling of the vehicle.

It's in case someone drives their car into a lake or ocean, those fins can actually help you steer back to land.

The fins on the bottom of my M2C were constantly in danger of being killed by my dumb hill of a driveway. I had the part numbers saved in case I needed to replace them, but they held up. Thankfully, the fins on my M3 aren't a hill problem.

While I am pleased to report mine have almost survived two winters of the occasional snow berm out of my garage and at the end of the driveway, I am not sure I would spend the money to replace them.
I suspect the car will function well without them, even though they are cool. |
