Changing color calipers…to gold
So I have always hated when people "upbadge" their vehicles. Sometimes it's down right hilarious. Would this be considered it?
The reason I asked is, ever since I saw the video Ragocars of the Dark frozen Grey M3, I loved the color and the gold calipers goes so well with it. I never even liked gold before till I saw it with that paint scheme. I don't need the carbon ceramic brakes because I won't ever track the car enough to warrant it and carbon ceramics are always on the noisy side. And let's face it, it's not cheap. The current build is with red calipers. I was thinking to changing to Orange to match my interior. I'm not thrilled with red nor do I think orange will match well on the wheels with Frozen Dark Grey. Thoughts?

Wait, you're asking what we think of people changing their calipers to gold and if we think that's being a poser because you don't have CCB's?
I never understood why people care what other people think. This is not directed at you, but anyone, anywhere in the car community, not just BMW. It's YOUR car, if you want gold, if you think gold looks better for your spec, do it. No one is going to care if you have gold calipers but no CCB's and people are going to say, dude you have gold calipers but you don't have CCB's? You're trying to fool us? lol CCB's suck anyway. I had them on the corvette. They do nothing to make you stop better. They're there to prevent brake fade. And they're noisy as fuck. I wouldn't ever want CCB's unless i was a track junkie. And even if i was, i rather just do pads and fluid. |

I have a G82 Frozen deep grey on order and at the last minute changed from Red to Black calipers. I agree regarding CCB, I love the look but come on it's £7k for an option I don't need (It's the only box I didn't tick)and I had to have a talk to myself as i'd be over £100k.
I just picked Red because I had blue on the last two F82's and I never understood it after BMW began using it everywhere they could stick an M badge. So, I went with black because really I can't go wrong as it's not a colour and I'm blacking out the badges on my car so it goes with the stealth look I want. I love the AMG bronze/gold calipers the best but that's not something for a M car. I'd go with BMW gold, it really suits frozen DG and at the end of the day I'd have picked CCB for the caliper colour so it ticks the last box

Go for the gold! Get the right tone/shade/metallic thought.
Was considering doing this and it does look best on FDG, BSM and AR imo. I don't think you could order CCB with 825m wheels so that combo might look strange but that does not seem to be your issue. But who really cares. Do it, it would look great. I have subscribed for the future pics! |

It's your car. You do you and don't care about what others think.
If your worried about the "poser" label maybe go for something close to gold but a touch off, like a frozen bronze or something similar?

I agree with the others. I much prefer my red ones, but if I wanted the gold color and painting them gold was a feasible enough thing to do effort and cost wise I'd do it. 99% of the population has zero clue that CCB brakes on BMWs are gold colored

CCB's are noisy. And they are only effective under constant heavy braking, IE: On a track. Steel brakes on the street is more than enough. And GM CCB's have put corvettes near the 7 minute mark at the ring. M3's are no where near that time. |

Under normal circumstances, meaning where 90% of M drivers will their their M car on, which are public roads, they WILL make noise. They aren't meant to be on the street. They're for track use. They're meant to take a beating without brake fade. You do not need CCB's for the street, ever. It's pointless. And they make a shit ton of noise. |

And... as an added point to that - 99% of the population has no idea that CCB even exist let alone that you paid an extra $8k for them. I'm a car guy and I have no clue if Mercedes or any of the other manufacturers offer them (I'm sure they do) and if they do are they a different color?

All i was saying is that CCB's, for the street, make noise. Fact. You do NOT need them for the street as they are only beneficial when you're stomping on the brakes over and over and over, IE: on the track. That's where they shine. When normal steel brakes will start to fade, your brake pedal getting mushy, CCB's will still provide more than sufficient braking power for longer periods of time. I'm a car guy just as much as people here. When i see CCB's on the street am i impressed? Fuck no lol. To me, i just think, "that dude wasted his money on CCB's and i bet he isn't even tracking the car". What impresses me is when i see a car dirty, sooty tail pipes, because i know that owner is driving the car lol |

Yup. I thought they were super svelte sexy since the first time I saw and drove one at M Track Days. And, it's a car Dukec hasn't gotten his hands on yet. I do still like my M4 a lot, but now that getting an M8 is within reach given the increased value of my car and the $20k price drop on them I can't pass up the chance to get one.

Everyone i know that tracks their nice car (not a stripped down track only toy), dailys that car too. So i thought it was a given that people who track their nice car, dailys it too. My friend dailys and tracks his 900hp hellcat. Not in winter though lol Quote:
That was one of the reasons why i added zero options to my M3. Because first i leased it and i didn't need any options but also if i was going to tack on options, it would enter M5 territory. And while i don't really like M5's, i like them because it has a V8. M8 would be incredible to own though. I hope BMW continues to keep the V8 in there for one more generation, even if they add a hybrid system. That way that's another option i could go with after this M3 lease is over. |
