Can someone show me a good sounding G8X?
Hello everyone, I just sold my m5 f10 and I’m looking at either getting a G8x m3/m4 or a f90 m5. I’m leaning more towards the g8x because I like the look and also ik that they can hold insane amounts of power + the s58 is dummy reliable. The only problem I have with the g8x that I can’t get over is how terrible they sound. I just previously came from the x5m f85 and m5 f10 and I loved how they sound, but ik how much of an headache s63’s can be and I don’t wanna go through that headache again with rod bearings and such. The g8x is a better option for me personally in so many aspects except for the single fact that I think the car sounds like it’s farting in a tin can. And no, I’m not looking to single turbo it, so I want to see if any of you guys have any setups that sound good (NO SINGLE TURBO BUILDS) so I can decide whether to get the g8x or f90.

“I think the car sounds like it’s farting in a tin can.”
Then it would be a huge brain fart, on your part, to buy one. |

The whole point of the thread is to see if there’s any aftermarket exhaust that will make it sound better and not like a VQ with a muffler delete. I clearly said that if there’s not that I’m going with the f90 m5. I didn’t know that critical reading skills were needed to read my thread…

I don't like the higher pitched raspy tone that some exhaust solutions have for this car, but I think this setup is just right-

The phrase of yours, that I quoted, struck a nerve for me.
Due to critical reading skills, it seemed appropriate to mirror your unthoughtful and abrasive phrase, considering the audience, with a thoughtful and abrasive retort. |

I don’t understand why you would get offended though as it’s my opinion and the car may sound great to you which is why you probably bought it, but again I’ve only had v8’s as my cars so the i6 is not that familiar of a sound to me even though I love the g8x. I’m just trying to see if there is anyway to make it sound better to me, not to you.

It’s simple.
Titanium or bust. Add downpipes if necessary. /EndThread |

I thought about getting rid of my M3CX for this exact reason. I installed a STS valve controller which allows the valve to be 100% open with a remote control. It’s a very simple 10 minute DIY. I’m not looking for a loud exhaust in my M3 and this was a perfect solution for me. Start with a valve controller and go from there if you want a specific and/or a louder exhaust note.

I dont want to get into an argument or back and forth with anyone over my opinion however these are my thoughts...
I think the g80 m sounds terrible, however, I have a straight pipe gt3 and a huracan evo spyder/sto so its not a fair comparison... Thats why I decided to leave it stock and will add intakes. Why buy car you dont think sounds great? Amazing performance, handling, looks, all weather drivability (i use it in NY winter and summer) so theres that The inside i6 noise and phony noise is enough for my enjoyment, and again with some intakes will be more than enough for my use. IMO youre going to do a crazy loud exhaust and it'll just be for people on the outside anyway... the car doesnt sing, its just loud noise with complete exhaust (my buddy has valvetronic) setup and its one of the better sounding but not a beautiful noise by any means. If you get one just do something clean sounding and intakes maybe it'll satisfy you enough |

I've owned 3 different F90 M5C's (it's a problem), a C8 RS6 & RS7, and the TT V8 requirement was one of the main reasons I had passed over the G80 before.
I can say that as a holistic driving experience, my '24 G80 M3XC is the best of all of them, just from a sheer driver engagement and raw driving feel, the G80 feels like a maniac even when it's not necessarily going that all that quick. The F90 is too insulated (in the wrong way) and hides it's speed too well, you end up feeling like you're in an unbreakable appliance at speed (in an unsafe way), it's just not the same as the G80. That saaaaiid, the G80 exhaust is way too turbo muffled, it's completely unimpressive in the couple of tunnel rips where my RS6/7 or the M5C sounded amazing at full throttle with the windows down, it doesn't really sound like anything other than loudish noise. The sound system is also terrible compared to those, but something I plan on getting custom solutions for. Nothing you do will make a G80 clap like the V8 sound you're used to, but after owning both it's not a deal breaker, and I'd still take the G80 (value, deprecation curve, easier to fit into places as a daily, in addition to the driving experience) overall.

if you want the best sound possible, I recommend the following:
MAD single resonated midpipe MAD resonated catless downpipes MAD front engine intakes SST valve controller XHP transmission tune to change the sound during shifts based on custom settings |

I came to the G80 M3 after having a Jaguar F Type R, M850i and R8 V10 (capristo exhaust) recently. I was so disappointed with the sound, I just haven't bothered anything to the M3 at all. I know no matter what I do it will never sound anything remotely as good as any of my other recent vehicles, so I figured I'd try to get over the sound part and enjoy mostly every other aspect of the car that it does better than others.
