High Pitch Brake Squeal

Hi Everyone -- took delivery of my 2023 M3 Comp on 11/19. Haven't had much of an opportunity to drive it until this week.

So far, I've put about 100 miles on it and I've noticed a very high-pitched squeal whenever I brake. Thought maybe things just needed to break-in, but I would have thought 100 miles would have corrected anything like that.

Curious if anyone else has experienced the same this early in ownership? If so, what was the issue?

Try doing some hard braking from around 50-5mph a few times and see if it goes away.

In certain braking situations, the perforated brake discs can emit functional noises. However, functional noises have no effect on the performance and operational reliability of the brake. - p 306 Manual

Totally normal, and honestly never goes away.

It will happen occasionally. Slightly embarrassing, but not a big deal.

Normal for your mileage. It'll go away once brakes are broken in.

It may go away, it may not. My X3MC was quiet after about 1000 miles. I have about 7K miles on my G83 and the brakes make all sorts of squeals and squeaks. Doesn't bother me that much in the winter with the top up but in the summer with the top down it is quite annoying.

Absolutely normal, happens on every M generation, unfortunately more, uglier and louder noise on the G8X due to the compound used.

Some harder braking will make them quiet for a while, but some repeated lighter braking in city will bring back the noise. There are tons of posts here about that…

Only solution may be to switch to some other pads, but even then you still may get noise after a while as some have reported.

I have almost 30k miles now and it's coming and going as described above.

Yes, it’s been turning some heads, but for the wrong reasons!

I feel like this is normal for all these newer cars with perforated discs and semi metallic pads

8600 miles and I still have occasional squeal under low speed braking. No squeal at all when I'm firm on thr brakes, but you have to balance that against a jarring stop.

I was just going to post about this. I thought there was something wrong with my brakes and asked them at my recent break-in service and they told me it's normal for an M car to make those break noises. I notice the high pitch squeaking noise mainly when I break slowly as opposed to a harder stop. It's annoying but hopefully it'll lessen as time goes on.

I seem to recall hearing something about it. I'll link you to a post.

I switched to EBC yellow pads, and it fixed it.
