Official: G80 M3 / G82 M4 Gets 480-510 HP (& M4 Track Video)

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Official Power Levels:

Standard G80 M3 / G82 M4 -- 480 hp, 6 Speed Manual (Standard), RWD.
Competition G80 M3 / G82 M4 -- 510 hp, 8 Speed Auto (Standard), RWD (Standard), AWD (Optional - arrives at later date)

From BMW Press Release:

Like all current high-performance-automobiles from the BMW M GmbH, the new BMW M3 Saloon and new BMW M4 Coupé are offered in two performance levels: Besides a 480 hp variant with a 6-speed manual shift, there is also the choice of a Competition model with 510 hp and an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic.

“For customers who prefer a puristic performance experience and particularly intense interaction with their vehicle, the model variants with a manual transmission constitute an offer that is unique in this segment,” explains Dirk Häcker, head of Development M Automobiles and BMW Individual. “On the other hand, with the Competition versions of the new BMW M3 Saloon and new BMW M4 Coupé, we are addressing maximum dynamics in regards power development and transfer – initially with classic rear-wheel drive and, at a later date, also in conjunction with the latest version of our four-wheel drive system M xDrive.

Compared with the predecessor models, the straight six-cylinder engines featured by the new high-performance sports cars deliver a maximum output increase of 49 hp and 60 hp (Competition models) and a maximum torque of up to 650 Nm [479 lb-ft].

It might have an ugly mouth, but it's got three pedals and you can still heel & toe!

Props to BMW M still promoting the good old El Manuel!!!

So BMW wants us to skip the Competition, get the standard with our old buddy Manuel, and tune it to beat the Comp? Got it.

At first I wasn't a fan of the idea of an AWD M car, but the M5 changed my mind.

That being said, I really miss the 6-speed in my E92 and I think, with the RWD, minus the weight of the system is the way to go on the smaller chassis.

I'm excited!

Ooo, now to see how much faster the xDrive variant is vs the RWD one is.

I am curious to see the G80 Comp RWD vs MxDrive comparo and see which one would be faster and if the xdrive would make a large difference... interesting they would go this direction... perhaps the MxDrive is a winter enticement only?

AWD at a later date, so that chunk of sucky rumor is now fact...sigh.
Nothing new and exciting today unfortunately. Well the green color looks surprisingly interesting I guess.

Although crazy ugly, I'm VERY happy it's at least coming with a manual.

That statement "...at a later date..." for the AWD is pissing me off. 2 years ago I thought I'd be in a G80 by now but it looks like end of 2021 if anything for the AWD

I sold my E92 over a year ago thinking I'd be in a new one by now...

I know how the life cycles work, but not selling your most popular M car for almost 2 years is...odd?

I wonder what will be the manual take rate. I assume most people will go for the competition model as it's the top tier model. And a good chunk of buyers will not be hardcore enthusiasts, unlike people on this forum.

If the M5 is anything to go by, the M3/M4 is going to be a complete beast.
