Basically IIRC its for several reasons according to EU / UK laws.

(1) When looking down the side of the vehicle from above no TREAD must be visible past the bodywork.

(2) When the vehicle is on the motorway (Freeway) and its raining the tires will cause excessive spray which can cause nuisance and danger to other road users.

(3) Keeps the rotating wheel from catching onto cyclists or pedestrians legs as they pass by

looks like they might be moving away from 20" wheels in the front for all trims?

Remember that back when the M3/4 comp pkg came out with the 20" 666 rims, vast majority of people hated on them like crazy. Now, they are very desired rims, particularly the black/polished ones.

I think the rims are fine. I think the front grille is totally fine too an am glad we are not seeing the glacial evolution of styling like on Porsches.

Best thing I can say about G80 is it looks to be coming with a full set of new colors including a real red and blue option.

Indeed, they do look much better. A nice evolution. Let's just hope they are lighter than the 666M boat anchors...

Damn. I'm a fan of the side, rear, and wheels. And all that hot front axle talk.

Agreed, with significant more area being added to wheels and tires, let’s indeed hope these wheels are of lighter construction to keep unsprung weight in check.

I have to say, while there are bigger issues here, and what I'm about to say applies to far more than these big grill models, I'm not a huge fan of how far around the sides of the car the headlights and taillights extend on some of the newer models, much like an Infiniti.

You could cook two large tomahawk steaks on those grills, with extra room for some filets.

Another great color. Holding out hopes maybe they add them next model year or maybe for the LCI. Not holding my breathe though.
