I had the E92 M3 for 4 years, averaged around 14,5 litres/100 km. My F80 Comp averages 10,5 litres. Its a massive massive difference. 10.5 should be around 27 mpg. I drive exactly the same with both cars. 2 days ago we were having fun with my son for 3 hours, averaged 12.5 litres/100 km. Don't know how 19mpg is possible if not on full throttle all the time.

It’s all about driving style, off/low boost the S55 is less thirsty than the S65 but at mid to high boost it’s thirstier. For me the S55’s party trick for all it is giving up in terms of high rpm thrills and induction noise vs the S65 is it’s steep torque curve. That steepness require high psi and since it’s accessible at pretty much all rpms I tend to use it often, that’s why my consumption is WAY higher than yours. |

P.S. The S55's induction noise in sport+ is really nice. |

And yes, that turbo spooling in Sport+ is fun to listen to. What psi are you seeing on the Awron under WOT in the different modes? Have you tried to see what the differences in boost/tuning in Efficient vs. Sport vs. Sport+. I'm curious to see if the boost is stepped or capped between the different modes or if it just comes on sooner or later. |

This being the first time the M3 will get an old engine ( ~2 years on the street at G8X launch. ) I suspect it will have some nice upgrades and retune for the M3 launch and that the X3M will receive those as well.
However I suspect sound could be more muted than today’s S58 due to EU regulations that apparently have already tamed the raucous of the M5C’s exhaust for the 2020 model year. |

I’m hoping aftermarket exhaust can make up for the EU regulation damping?

If only BMW would let owners adjust/select how much sound they want to hear in the cabin (sound levels is selectable via coding but what a PITA) then people wouldn't mind so much. I like having a low amount of the ASD but everyone's hearing is different so why not let it be a volume switch? BMW always thinks they know best but sometimes they should let people decide for themselves. Ever since the E60 M5 was roasted by Jeremy Clarkson for having too many user selectable modes it seems like BMW pulled back and made things overly simplified. Not good either...

Believe it or not, average M owner need to hear good and artificial exhaust note without having to think about if it's artificial. Providing a volume switch reminds them it's fake and decrease the happiness. Would your life be better with a magical switch that can take off your wife/girlfriend's makeup at your will?
If you care enough to dislike it, just code it off. It's an one off thing, no need to complain.

Dont trust the E92 boardcomputer. It showed much too positive mileage for me. The only right way was to divide tanked litres by driven kilometres. The F80 is spot on always. |

Would Euro markets be getting quite exhaust than US/ other markets due to the particulate filter?
