Does anybody know of any risk if you retrofit but don't code? Will that screw anything up?
Just trying to avoid cost of purchasing software to code for a one time job. Cheers! |

It will work just fine, you just won't have the forget phone reminder if you leave the phone in the tray and get out of the driver's seat.

If connected to Android auto will the battery display as charging? Assuming yes since this indication is coming from the phone? |

Yes Android Auto should show it as charging but iDrive won't. Once I coded it in, iDrive also started to show the charging icon.

My part came today, took less than 10 minutes to install. Hardest part was reconnecting the plug by touch only ! Took 8 of the 10 minutes haha.
Interestingly the part that came out is visually identical even down to having an LTE port. Obviously it’s missing something “internal” that means the charging is disabled. Wouldn’t surprise me if it was the LED!!! |

ISTA shows green across the board so it’s a compatible swap.
All coding does for this part is add the “don’t forget your phone” notification, which I’ve had before and turned off as it was annoying lol. If I add it to my FA It would also add the lte compensator ( that I don’t have *yet*) to the ecu list, which would flag up as missing. TLDR, I’m not bothering. Not accidentally left my phone thus far haha |

Coding wasn’t hard and the alert has helped for sure - if I need a fast real charge though the car is getting a wire in the arm rest and that’s when I forget it

Hi, I have a 2023 M4 and am looking to retrofit the wireless charging pad.
I spoke to my local BMW dealer and they gave me the following part number: 84105A62826 but they wants $380 for it. I then spoke to BMWPARTSDIRECT and they said that it is a future part number than does not exist for ordering yet. They gave me 84105A1DC85 but that seems to be for 2020-22 cars. (I do have the digital key) Any advice would be most welcome as to the correct part. |

I have been looking to buy for over a year, but hard to find supply without an exorbitant price tag. Most if not all of the international sellers would not post internationally, although there are ways around this. Also the local sellers in Australia were asking for ridiculous $$. I ordered from Paddleshifterz, arrived within 10 days and installed and programmed in about 90 mins (took my time being carful and trying to take pics). I paid < %50 than if bought locally here in Australia. |

Alright folks, here is an update.
I have an MY23 M3 G80 with iDrive8. I replaced my NFC pad with 84105A1DC85 and I can confirm that it was plug and play to get wireless charging going. I simply removed the other unit, plugged in the new one and it immediately worked. Where I ran in to issues was trying to see if the digital key works - it does not. I tried it a few times and it didn't seem to recognize that a digital key was present at all. Taking a look at the unit I purchased (84105A1DC85) I noticed that the diagram on the top indicated wireless charging but not NFC. The description at the link below shows that this unit is indeed JUST a wireless charger. It does not at all specify any NFC capability nor does the diagram on the top of the unit indicate any. https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...ad-84105a1dc85 The other part number discussed here (84-10-5-A3E-813) is the exact same price and includes BOTH wireless charging and NFC. This is noted in both the description at the link below as well as the diagram on the top of the unit. https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...ce-84105a3e813 The lesson learned here is that the person who specified the installation of 84105A1DC85 and stated everything is working correctly clearly did not test the digital key. I should have taken a better look and purchased 84-10-5-A3E-813. I'm likely going to order the correct part soon but honestly I don't really use the digital key and I'm happy that I have wireless charging. TLDR: Buy 84-10-5-A3E-813 do not buy 84105A1DC85 (no NFC). It works fine on MY23 G80 with iDrive8 but I have not done the coding as I haven't see any instructions on how to do it for iDrive8. Works fine without the coding but you don't get the warning to remember your phone when you exit the car. P.S. anybody want to buy a 84105A1DC85 unit at a discount? |

dr1ven Thank you for the great update. Still unsure what the part number (84105A62826) I was given above is. Apparently it is unreleased...
With the wireless charging, do you run AA/CarPlay and if so does it increase charge whilst running it? I have heard reports that the drain from running AA/CP wirelessly drains the battery faster than the wireless charging pad can keep up. |

I can’t speak to this yet as I haven’t driven the car since I installed it. I’m heading in for service tomorrow and will test and post my results. |

The phone was a bit hot when I pulled it out though. Might be a concern for longer charging sessions. |

Great posts! I just purchased an 2023 M3 and want to add wireless charging. I traded in my 2022 M340i which had it, and I can confirm that my phone would get incredibly hot if left on the charger for a long period of time. This caused me to hesitate in adding it to this car, which was built without it.

So I received my car a few days ago and tried to install 84105A3E813 and it doesn't fit. My car is a MY23 M3 6-speed. Maybe I missed it somewhere in the thread, but the trim surround is different. Is it because the manual cars don't have the digital key?
Was I supposed to have ordered a different part number or do I just need to replace the trim around it? Looks like the cup holder edge is a different shape. |
