Tap ASD to deactivate the code.

As for the quality, I highly doubt it actually affects anything. There's supposedly some noise cancellation or EQ going on with ASD from the speakers but I couldn't really hear that much of a difference over there just being no engine noise coming through the speakers.

Only real way to drastically improve the quality is a system swap and an amp.
Got this to work. No discernible change in audio quality. Big change in car noise….there wasn’t any! I, uh, may have turned It back on. Might try unchecking the “load” toggle.

I decided to stop ASD yesterday, and kept having some sound persist. I kept reading posts by Berzerker saying turnoff the activation thing at the bottom of the RAM module (receiver audio module I believe). I finally noticed 3 dots in the top right of the screen (Android phone). I clicked that which brought up the mini menu (seen in first image below), then the next screen you click the 3 dots next to the activation part (2nd image). I turned that off along with all other RAM options on the other main page of the RAM section and voila, it's nice and quiet!

Hope that helps.

How are you liking the car with it off? I'm going to need to get an exhaust...too damn quiet!

I may try running load off, burbles off, leaving startup sound and shift sounds. Might be odd...

It was so boomy sounding with it on, I didn't like it. Seemed to just add drone. I have a resonated mid-pipe to add once break-in is done. Coupled with the SST controller, I think it will be plenty loud for me.

ASD with the stock exhaust makes it literally silent. You really need a midpipe at least before turning it off otherwise you're going to hear almost nothing.

I have the Dinan midpipe and the Dahler controller programmed to my mirror homelink buttons. Disabled ASD today and it’s absolutely perfect. The sound increase from these two simple mods is amazing and sounds really fantastic - plus you can go to near-stock sound with a push of a button to not annoy your neighbors until you leave the area 😂

Glad to hear it’s perfect now.

I’m thinking of also getting the dinan high flow middle exhaust. Is that what you have?

Yes that’s it. Disabled ASD and love the non-electronic burbles and pops from the Dinan in Sport mode. Pretty simple install for any local exhaust shop as well.

Those burbles are still part of ASD, hate to break it to you lol. They'll disappear if you press the exhaust button in the console. It's one part of ASD you can't disable.

Interesting because you can hear them from behind the car?

There are real burbles which come out of the exhaust system, which are disabled when the sound button is off.

Right - I’m good with that. Just not the crap coming from the speakers.

They're not real if you can turn them off lol. i.e. it's not a result of something the exhaust "does" it's something they added.

How could they be more “real”?
Aren’t all burbles just a factor of slight tuning which is in our case applied to the exhaust button?

For my taste, this is a pretty great setup. I have it as well, and it fits the car. Good volume, nice tone, and with asd off you can hear it from inside quite nicely. And yeah if youre in the mood for burbles, hit the button and you have actual burbles.

I had ASD coded off for most of last year and I loved the way it sounded paired with only the AA EL midpipe.

My wife rarely drives and I decided to daily her Defender for awhile to see what it felt like to play truck driver simulator for a month. It was actually a pretty enjoyable experience to be above everyone on the road and just cruise around unnoticed.

I recently went back to the M3 and the software updated and reverted all my coding. I was lazy and kind of wanted to see if the changes I made were actually noticeable so I didn’t recode anything for the last month. Coming from the quiet Defender (non-V8), I thought I had just forgotten how much drone my M3 had with the midpipe installed. I totally forgot that ASD made all that fake drone noise until today when I recoded everything and the car sounds amazing again.

I don’t really notice much of a sound difference for Spotify, but I do notice that the car just sounds a lot better without all the extra fake noise

You do you brother. I guess changing exhaust sounds via the valves aren’t real either. We should all just straight pipe.

I just got my 1200 mile service and they updated to 11.2023 and it wiped my coding. As soon as I got home I disabled ASD and removed the activation. So much better without the fake soinds to me. I do think the car is a bit too quiet so considering a midpipe. I just recall getting an ER midpipe for my X3MC and it was too loud at startup. I thought my neighbors were going to kill me.

It’s super loud on startup with the valves open but with them closed it’s not too bad. I def recommend coupling it with a quality valve controller. The Dahler I have is a bit pricey but I really like the convenience of having it tied into my mirror’s homelink buttons.

The burbles sound like someon brewing a cup of coffee to me lol. Ever since I thought of that comparison I can’t take them seriously anymore.
