Lol. People buy a 2 ton car and can actually say with a straight face that they didn’t get the sunroof for the weight

Yes you can also just buy a Civic, gut that and put in a high hp engine, but at the end of the day its not the same thing. |

Been to many 1/2 mile /roll racing events. The little amount of weight difference in the roofs will not really make any difference. If your that anal, get carbon breaks/buckets/carbon 18” wheels / rip out the seats/ light weight battery/lose your muffin top and so on. My brother ran the GTR with no seats passenger/rears and was doing same times as with. Maybe more gas on those runs /head wind who knows. Just saying, if you want the sunroof, don’t worry about being slower than the same car without. TIRES would make up way more time than the lesser weight of the roof. So get some R-888’s and have fun

Carbon fiber roof goes with M3 and is standard equipment.
On M2 CF is an option I had initially ordered a 2022 M3 with a sunroof cancelled it and than settled on a CF roof |

I can’t believe this has spanned 5 pages.
Buy what you want. You’re not going to notice the weight. You’re not going to detect a big difference in rigidity. It’s highly unlikely to leak (unless you never use it and let the seals dry out, or park outside and let the drains get all clogged and don’t clean them. Resale will even out after 5 years or so. Bottom line, buy what you want. |

Who’s to say having the sunroof will hurt resale?
It’s obvious by this thread that we have what looks like a 60/40 desirability. When these cars trickle down to a different bracket of affordability the sun roof cars will be much more rare. And there’s obviously demand.. and low supply. |

5 pages may not be enough. I want the sunroof. I just wanted to see whether people who don't race choose CF and why they do so. Maybe I am missing something. So far, I'm missing exclusivity, a free $3500 option, weight saving, torsional rigidity, potentially not having to fix leaks after 10 years. So far, I'm not convinced that having a CF roof is worth losing the ability to see the sky and get air and sunlight on a nice day and not getting a same-color roof.

Honestly, I got the CF roof because I think it looks really cool. 😎 Never going to track my own M3, just love the look.
OP, sounds like you’ll be happiest with a sunroof. Either way I’m sure you’ll love the car. |

The same ratio of people who buy new with CF and new a sunroof will be buying used with CF and used with a sunroof. Right now there are 196 used G82's on CarGurus. Only 31 have a sunroof. Only 11 with 6MT. That's low supply for 4 years of production.

This thread is pointless. Someone got sunroof and now trying to prove the internet that’s the right thing at to go.
Come on…. Nobody cares. I got what I got cuz I like it. |

I don’t think it’s the same ratio when the car is a couple of generations old. When enthusiast cars age, the ‘enthusiast spec’ tends to become more desirable.

I am not saying that alone will make the difference, i said every bit counts. So yes, lighter wheels, removing rear seats, passenger seat, lighter driver seat - all those will help every little bit. if you can shave off 40lbs (of the sunroof), that's even better. |
