2024 G80 M3 Order Mishap

Hey Guys,

My first time posting here, I'd like your guys' opinion on my ordering experience from my dealer for a new G80. In August I put a deposit down to get my spot in the line for an allocation from the factory. I put the basic options that I knew I wanted but was told that I will get a final call to finalize my options when I get an allocation, I was thinking about doing an individual color. I never got a call and today, december 15, I go into the dealership to buy some parts and ask to see where I am on the list and the sales rep tells me my car is already made and is already in the US port. I never got the full buying experience where I could track my car through the production line. I wanted other options such as the laser headlights and the upgraded rims etc. Your input is appreciated. Thank you!

Most probably SA is trying to sell you a car from someone else that didnt want it.
They should've ask you about your final build at the time they received the ''allocation'' In this case Im 99.9% sure this allocation was someone else.
Im currently week 4 for production, and my SA sent me a build list to review before sending it to BMW.
That's how it should be done IMO.
You can easily tell your SA you want your own build,at the end its not a 20k cheap car to just settle for something not fully custom by you.

If you would have changed your order then nope that’s not what you agreed to.

If they don’t give you the next allocation then go elsewhere.

I called 20 dealerships in 300 miles - 3 had immediate allocations some had waitlists 3 years long.

Unless you are fully happy with the basic car, I would get another allocation and start over. Call dealers all over your area to see how the long allocation wait it (it can vary greatly from dealer to dealer in the same city).

Once the dealer has your allocation (often the end of the month), they place your order with the factory. You'll get a production number and can use the Track My BMW website.

Also ask about the M Performance add-on parts (port installed). Most don't even mention these.

Good luck

When I ordered my 1st G80 last year, my CA required me to sign a copy of my build. He always kept me up to date what was going on and also provided a prod number as soon as my allocation was available. Im working with the same CA for the CS and he did the same.

Yea, I would say get what you want if you're ordering.

That’s probably not your build

I had to sign a paper with the specific things I wanted on it. Got a allocation # with it or some people get it later on. And on that code you should see all the specs from the paper you signed. Find a different dealer, have the experience, and get exactly what YOU want.

Same thing happened to me. Dealer ordered my first car incorrectly and never let me know it was in production until I got a call telling me it was on a boat.

Ask them to show where you were notified of the allocation and reviewed the final spec. I had a solid paper trail and they then ordered my correct build.

A similar thing happened to me as well. I made it clear that I had not approved the order and walked away - took my business to a different dealer. I would expect that you should be able to get your deposit back (I gave them none.)

Agreed. You should of gotten a build sheet to sign off on, allocation and then a production number.

I would never take a car that you didn't want. You are under ZERO obligation to take the car. Tell them you never got a phone call and you want to be put on the list for the next allocation.

Or better yet, refuse the car and then go to a different dealer and get an allocation over there.

Most likely you were never on the list and this is a car that someone else ordered and walked away from.

So they never even told you that you got an allocation? Just submitted your build without even checking with you? Seems like poor/lazy salesmanship, at best, I’d definitely move on.

Nope, never got a call about getting an allocation. If I didn't go in and ask I would probably have just gotten a call that its arrived at the dealership which is not the experience I expected or wanted. Appreciate your input.

Was thinking of asking for another allocation. I wasn't expecting to receive a car in january as they told me it would arrive in may, which is ridiculous. I'm really upset because I don't know when the next production run is and when I will receive the car that I want.

There are other dealers, I’m not even sure I’d give them a second chance, at least not without a decent discount.

Hans is the man. He will hook you up with a legit allocation. Tell you dealer to give you your money back immediately. Hans' fee is worth it.

They should’ve gone over the build a couple of times before just placing the order. My dealer did that with my car confirming what I wanted multiple times and signing various build sheets.

So, what does your SA say?

You built a car and gave them a deposit. That’s super common. But what’s docs did you sign?

Certainly pass on the car is it’s not the spec you want.

I don’t get the whole spec and tracking experience. But that’s just me and I realize others feel differently.

When I placed my deposit my SA had me sign a spec that was hastily whipped together just to get a spot in line, was told an 8-12 month wait. I wanted to do an individual color and add some options and he had told me that I would be able to choose this color when I receive an allocation. I would receive a call when I get the allocation, never got the call. By experience, many have said they get multiple calls from their SA throughout the process. If I hadn’t gone in and asked I would have just gotten a call that the car is at the dealership, definitely not the experience that I was expecting. My SA said he’ll see what he can do, I’ll give him the weekend. I’m expecting a call Monday if not I’m walking. Thank you for your response.

What does that mean, you just tell your CA you want a car and when it shows up you take it no matter what it is? Understand that some people don’t care to follow their order along the way, but speccing the car is kinda important.
