I don't get it.
There has been a litany of bearing problems in M engines over the years. I've had an S65 motor fail in my M3 and an S63 motor fail in my M6. Bearings in both cases. And yet fixes exist, such as aftermarket rod bearings for the E92, so it's not rocket ship science. My advice to BMW is pretty basic. Figure out if these reoccurring issues are related to BMW Engineering doing a poor job in design/manufacturing specifications and validation, or BMW Purchasing overriding Engineering and going with the cheapest supplier. Then fire the group that's responsible. It's a bearing for god's sake. Get the spec right and don't cheapen out. It's not worth your reputation. As for owners, get an extended warranty. Seriously.

Leak the notice before there is any fix released so all these guys can keep panicking...
Is this really much different than what happened with the S54? Probably nothing to be losing your minds over, especially if you haven't taken delivery yet, considering this is a DELIVERY STOP. |

This is annoying for those affected, but honestly it's probably better now rather than later. Sure it'll slow down allocations but the corrected new builds won't have anyone worrying if it will happen to them because it's already happened and corrected. It's just one of a few reasons why I prefer to wait at least 2 model years until pulling the trigger on a newly developed vehicle.

Doesn't seem like a wide issue, at least for the Canadian market - less than 50 units affected. Does not seem like every single VIN during those production dates are affected, this recall/stop deliver seems to be more VIN-based.

And if it were that serious, every car would have been recalled.

Week 29 G80 X—drive. No recall. I live in Germany and fortunately avoided all the other stops sales and got my car about 5 weeks ago. I can’t imagine being one of the poor souls that now has to deal with this on top of all the other BS. My heart goes out to you.

If you're impacted I'd demand a powertrain warranty extension, like 4 more years and another 50k miles, 8/100k

Man, I took a break from this thread and the pitchforks are out. Glad I leased this thing and not looking forward to the fix but man…settle down until we know what’s what. (This coming from someone who typically overreacts).
We have so little info. Obviously I’m bummed I’m apparently affected but what am I gonna do? |

This thread has definitely gotten out of hand. This recall only effects a small number of cars during a small window of production. It’s not wide spread. Also this is definitely nothing like the rod bearing issues that plagued every single E9X M3, we’re talking maybe two hundred cars possibly effected. BMW is obviously aware and they will remedy the situation for their customers. Will this suck to go through if you have this recall…YES, but BMW will 100% get this issue fixed and this will be forgotten in a year. Let’s all calm down, this news never should have been given to the public on a Friday but what can you do. We’ll know more next week. Everyone have a great weekend!

But regardless, dealing with disappointment and anxiety for what will probably be weeks when we should be over the moon w/ our new rides - we don't get that back no matter the fix. Not angry - ok maybe a bit - just bummed. |

I also agree that this motor has been out a few years, and in other models, however, this motor is supposed to have the forged crank that the XM didnt originally come with, so, right there, those are going to be different main bearings. As long as they arent removing my motor, and taking the car, apart, Ill still probably take delivery, since my VIN isnt showing affected.

Why I have been a serial lease for the past 18 years. I wonder if the Kith special editions are also affected…that would s*ck big time and teach BMW lesson going with a street brand.
