What is it that you don't like about it? It's a nice shifting manual. Probably better than all of the BMW manuals I've owned in the last 20 years (…not that those were bad either). If this is your first manual car, what are you comparing it to?
Nah its not my 1st manual car. Ive driven Ford, Mitsubishi, Honda, Subaru and couple other brands. I feel the manual on this M3 is just too electronic if that makes sense. The other day on 2nd gear it pop out and went to neutral i was like tf

Congrats OP! Saw a green G80 in person the other day, and that green looks so good under the sun.

Refinement tends to feel that way. The Porsche guys find the new 7MT to be too refined - albeit really good - as well. I think we tend to correlate drama and the lack of refinement with rawness and character. There was nothing memorable about Ford, Honda or Nissan/Infiniti manuals for me. The longer I spent in BMW manuals the more I came to appreciate the slick shifting nature of the transmission(s).

At the end of the day im happy and blessed to be still driving a manual M3. In 5 years or less, when they stop making these manual cars were gonna say is how great they were 🙂

Hahaha! After I retired, I actually worked for a friend's driving school for a couple of years teaching teens how to drive. This is just the way you should be making lane changes, but most people don't bother to completely turn their head to look in their blind spot and hardly anyone signals. This is why Lane Departure Warning systems were invented, to prevent accidents.

The Lane Departure Warning in my F82 M4 works just fine and doesn't vibrate when I'm in my lane. I hardly ever notice that it's there. Sorry about your G80...

Up here in the Greater Boston area a lot of the local roads are two-lanes and I'm constantly coming over the line to avoid myriad obstacles along the way. Garbage trucks, bicyclists, landscapers, double-parked cars, people who don't like to use sidewalks, road raging idiots, etc. I've got no use for the lane keep assist except maybe on a highway trip, if I'm not caffeinated.

I heard the gearing in the M3/M4 is shorter…which makes for easier rolling into 2nd…like at a stop sign…(yeah, I know). That's actually my biggest complaint with a manual 340i, gears 1,2,3 are too long, while 6th is too short.

What do you think?
