My car goes into BMW of Ridgefield on Monday. I will keep everyone up to date throughout the process of my recall service. I just wish i could remember if i was a week 34-35 build to help others that are effected. Very happy that everything worked out well for you Knight.

Sucks that you had to go through all this, but glad its all sorted and you can enjoy the car again. Im sure as more and more cars come in for this BMW will probably have more engines in the states to cut down on downtimes.
I work for Hyundai and they are going through an insane Engine issue with rod bearing failures. I have probably 40 engines either on order or here waiting on a tech to replace them. No matter how many I get done, more just show up. My car is a 21 and does not show that its affected. Mine is also leased but I plan to buy the car out as I plan to keep the car long term. It has far surpassed all expectations. Idk if I would buy mine though if it had a engine replacement or at the end of my lease order another one. |

My service advisor called me not long ago to inform me my car is done. This is the time line for my cars repair.
01/31 Drop Off, no work done 02/01 no work done 02/02 Parts were ordered 02/03 Main parts arrived some missing hardware arriving tomorrow. Engine opened up to start repairs the following day. Told me a finish date of 02/07 02/04 worked on the repair/ failed to provide me and update at end of day (not a big issue). 02/07 confirmed my car was ready (30 min ago). Checked my BMW App and they had indeed road tested the vehicle based on mileage When i pick up the car tomorrow I will scan to my email and post the full repair order they will be providing me with. This should help outline what is done to an engine that is repaired and not replaced. |

This is the work order for my car, enjoy! There was a note in my car telling me to keep it under 4.5k rpm for the fist 300 miles. I will probably do closer to 500 before i got WoT again.

My car was built in week 34, but I have never showed anything listed as a recall or a memo being placed on my car. Im wondering if any G82s were actually involved in this issue? G82s are built at a different assembly plant, in Dingolfing, so, it's entirely possible that the bearings in question, were only at one plant. But, then I also hear the motors are possibly assembled in another plant, and shipped to the assembly plants, or is the engine assembly done on site? I would think it would be cheaper to ship the parts, and have them assembled, onsite, versus shipping whole motors to plants.

Definitely following this thread with great interest, thanks for posting! Too bad the invoice/work order doesn't list the pricing for each part, would just be interesting to know.

Based of the time frame they had my car and were actually working on it i would say there was about 10-12 hours of labor.

Holy shit. Did you get an entire long block (Whole new Crate motor, with valve covers and everything?), or did they just replace the short block (block rods and pistons?) I went back and read, but couldn't determine the outcome.

Wow. I guess that's the way to go to ensure there isn't any metal in the rest of the motor.

Best of a worst case scenario. Short block likely would have also would’ve been more susceptible to issues IMO. |
