I'm on the fence. Probably will look good on the real car. Especially after we get used to it. The main deal breaker for me would be an ugly front license plate breaking up the lines. . Although in Nevada we are not required to run one.

I don't think that's quite accurate. My opinion is, I don't care what length the sausage if the casing is made out of shit. If the casing and contents are delectable, I'll take it in whichever quantity my life needs dictate.

Basically, there's nothing wrong with the same sausage different length concept, as long as you're starting with a good product. The MB S/E/C's of the W140 and maybe even the W220 generation were timeless and classic. I'd say the same for the E46/E39/E38 BMW products.

Your render really shows how badly BMW missed the mark. They're honestly trying too hard, and are coming out with a polarizing design instead of focusing on moving metal. Someone should be fired.

I think the larger point is that, mini 8 or not, with each component of the front having proper proportions, you get a very attractive, well integrated and aggressive looking design.

The exaggerated grille size looks way out of proportion, disrupts any flow that may have existed in the overall design, and becomes noting more than a distraction...as opposed to a well integrated part of a broader design theme.

Just my $0.02

Another way of looking at this is not a mini-M8, but rather it should at least look like a relative or cousin to the M8. Basically the next generation of their design philosophy or direction.

This design is too dramatic of a departure from that IMO.

Heh heh, let's not go too far. I am no fan of the G15 8 Series front end, for example - a design he seems to adore. The grill on the concept was downright garish to me, and the production model isn't much better to be honest. Really, all of the siamese-d grills, which is almost every BMW model now, are subpar as far as I am concerned.

The oft-mentioned CSL 3.0 Homage - particularly the R variant - has it right. That's a non-connected, framed (very thick frames, in fact), taller style grill that looks great. Hopefully the G42 and/or G87 will bring that forward onto a production vehicle.

Lol, you scare too easy...

When I will see this one in my mirror I will just laugh really hard. This is like driving a garage made car with two furnace filters in the front...

Porsche 911 headlight design:
  • past - 993: "Let's keep it classic. The 'bug-eye' design is an iconic part of our model."
  • 996: "Let's implement that 'fried egg' / 'teardrop' Boxster design. We're done with the old, here's the new design, we need CHANGE !"
  • 997 - now: "Uhm, from hindsight, pre-996 wasn't so bad after all. Let's go classic again."
BMW M3/M4 kidneys:
  • past - F80/F82: "Let's keep it classic. The 'kidneys' design is an iconic part of our model."
  • G80 M3 / G82 M4: "Let's implement that 'coffin kidneys' i4 Concept design. We're done with the old, here's the new design, we need CHANGE !"
  • future: "Uhm, from hindsight, pre-G80/G82 wasn't so bad after all. Let's go classic again."

Another 'rendering'...I'm holding on to the actual release before I put forth my 2 cents. If it looks ugly then my f80 will be all the better to keep long term. If the new one looks legit then it appears I may be getting a new m3.

WTH is that....!

🤦🏻 If this is not brand sabotage I don’t know what it is....! The Koreans have infested one of the most historic German brands, The ex head of “BMW M-Motorsports” is responsible for everything Hyundai “N”.
Yes, I know it sounds crazy but does it make ANY FK SENSE for BMW to keep Designing uglier and uglier bonnets????? Nope.
Took me one minute to draw that elementary design, I know it’s for laughs but I will take my snout over that Render any day 😈 🤟🏻....<—-Yeah, Call me BMW, You need help, I did draw that, in the men’s Bath.....💩
