Interesting result. Not unexpected. As Joe said this was in the dry. In the wet would be much more favorable to the xDrive.

My personal experience from switching between xDrive and RWD on the track is that I'm consistently quicker using xDrive. Mostly dry and morning dew type of days.

My suspicion would be that the less experienced you are on track, the bigger the delta between AWD and RWD would be. The added traction will help your confidence and also forgive mistakes more.

Absolutely. On track, AWD is definitely faster than RWD for beginners. AWD still has some advantages over RWD for advanced driver (e.g., putting power down, off camber corners, etc.) but, at that point, AWD vs. RWD comes down to preference or driving style. AWD won’t always be faster for advanced drivers.
