V style grills and front-mounted intakes: Any drastic experiences in dust / rain?

I live in Saudi Arabia where it’s sometimes dusty (coastal city, so not too often, but on rare occasions during the year the wind gets dusty), and quite humid. Has anyone been in a similar predicament that can share with us his experiences?

Had the RKTunes in my ‘22 X3MC and I went through a monsoon for 10 hours coming home from 600 miles away and it poured 8 out of 10 hours and no issue. Keep in mind people use water injection so a little water getting past the filter won’t hurt anything. Now, if the rain is above the level of the intakes, yeah, you’ll hydro lock the engine.

The RK sounded amazing to me. Take a listen….Not a G80 but same engine.

I have the RK Tunes front mounted intakes with a Vorsteiner grille. I've driven through some torrential rain and have had no issues almost 2 years later. My G80 is also a daily driven car with 20k miles right now. ymmv.

No mesh, yes? I’ve heard people precautiously mesh out their radiators to prevent foreign objects from damaging the radiator, but I feel like mesh is excessive…
Then again I’m in Saudi Arabia, very small stones travel at high speeds and crash into our windshields / bumper / hood often, I’d think the radiator may be prone too.

I do not have the mesh, though I've contemplated it.

What you must remember is that experiences are anecdotal. I do not live too far from luckym3girlnj and the number of times that woman has cracked her windshield from rocks astounds me. However, in my 19 years of driving, I've never cracked my windshield from any rocks or anything. You may get lucky or unlucky, it's up to you to gamble or not.

p.s. luv u frannie <3

No mesh was on my former ‘22 X3MC.

Do you drive aggressively and behind people until they get out your way or no? It’s possible she does and you don’t. Rocks kicking up at you tends to happen more to those people than those that aren’t. Of course the extreme opposite can be true too where you don’t drive fast enough and people go around, cut you off or speed past you and kick stuff up. There’s also the careful drivers who drop back a lot and are never behind trucks or semis, etc. to get pelted.

I'm in Arizona and we get a few Haboobs (dust storms) every year. I have project gamma intakes (silver) and a gt3 grill. I've had no issues in rain or having dust gathered on the filters. Our dirt is also redish because of the clay so I'd notice pretty quickly with the filters being silver/gray.

Would be interesting to see some Blackstone test results for silica numbers from the people running these setups.

AhsanU 😂😂😂 sounds to me you drive way more cautiously than I do👀 but two of my windshields got cracks just from rolling with the guys. I’ve had 6 replaced so far 3 on the g80 and 3 with my f80.
