Car has 2k miles already but computer says break-in due in 1200 miles
Just bought a preowned '23 M3 Xdrive with 2k miles on it from a private car dealer. Called 3 diff BMW dealerships and all of em say that they don't see any record of break-in service performed.
The car runs and drives like a beast with full power available however the on-board computer says that there's an upcoming break-in service due in 1200 miles. This all doesn't make any sense, and ideas? P.S. I have scheduled the break-in service for next week just to be safe. |

Please stop driving “full power” until you get the service. The engine does not have proper lubrication. Wishing the best, very likely it will be ok.

I've parked it till the appt next week for sure.
Just not sure why the car didn't force the last owner to go in for service cause it's still telling me I have 1200 miles to go. |

Is it possible they forgot to reset the service light? After I picked up my car from getting my 10k it still said I needed it and was told the tech forgot to do the reset.

Make sure to ask the dealer to note if the oil in the car was the lighter break in oil or if it was the full weight oil. This could be a pretty big deal and you'd want to be ready to put the private dealer on the hook for the miss. Hopefully the service was done but just not logged right.
Honestly best to just ask if you can have a sample of the oil they drain, and send it into blackstone for an oil report. https://www.blackstone-labs.com/prod...ree-test-kits/ |

If I had to guess the car had a mileage blocker installed. Oil change interval data is as far as I know stored inside the ECU, and if a blocker was installed it could have caused some sort of issue with the car not taking miles off of the interval correctly.
