Some 0w30 oils' Viscosity @ 40C, cSt are around the late 50s mark (BMW factory 0w30), whereas some 5w30's are around the mid 70s at the same temp range. The popular PPE/Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 is around 79. The thinner the oil is at lower temps, the faster the oil flow is and that minimises start-up wear. So it is not necessarily that a 0w30 and a 5w30 would have the exact same viscosity at +20F. There are a lot of variations to this, some 5w30s are thinner and thicker than some 0w30s and vice versa. But I sleep better at night knowing that I have the thinnest possible oil at colder temps and the thickest oil possible at higher temps

For “premium quality” maintenance do things at half the factory interval, maximum. That means engine oil every 5K, plugs every 15K, rear diff and transfer case every 25K, brake fluid every 30K, coolant and trans oil every 50K, and O2 sensors at 75K miles. The coolant, ZF8 trans, and transfer case are listed as Lifetime fluids, so I took a little personal judgement there. Brakes, rotors, spark coils, injectors, and engine bearings are all only-as-needed.

If you run E85 fuel change engine oil every 2K. I just dump and fill the oil, and let the dealership do the filter changes every 10K.

I use MOTUL 5W30. It doesn't get THAT cold around here that I would want to switch to 0W30. Coldest in winter months is usually teens, sometimes single digits but rare.
