Liqui Moly Cera Tec oil additive

So I came across this on Kies Motorsports. Sounds like it might be a good additive to add during oil changes.

What do others think? Does anyone have any experience with this.

Im going to put this in the snake oil category for the time being until sometime proves that it does what they say it's supposed to do.

I'm not sure - Liqui Moly is a legit company. I wouldn't equate this with 5k audio cables...

I know they're legit but saying this additive does something without any proof is my issue, besides our cars are under warranty so if the dealer drains the oil and sees the oil with this milky consistency due to the additive he'll think something is wrong with the engine or wonder why you're putting an additive that isn't needed.
I wouldn't waste my money on this, liquid moly sponsors kies so...

This isn't snake oil, the ceramic coating does occur. But is it going to prevent a rod bearing wear issue or anything significant along those lines? Absolutely not.

All additives you need are in your regular oil. Liqui Moly is legit company, but they build business on these products with questionable usability.

What it boils down to is does it help you sleep better at night? If you are using the oil your motor is designed to use you don't have much to fret. The additives do accomplish things but with out controlled tests, its hard to determine how much they help if at all.

I put this in my X3 with N55 engine during the last oil change, about 4 weeks ago. The car has about 50K miles.

Can’t comment much about it. One thing I notice is that the oil temp is a tad lower than before.

Less temperature could mean less friction, however its very hard to determine that without doing controlled testing.

In principle what they claim sounds legit, but is it really doing anything or just another placebo? Idk.

I would think if this was needed or BMW could make money by recommening it, they would do so.

No they wouldn't. It cost money to research and stock a product and then give them a profit cut. That doesn't mean the engine wouldn't be happier with the coating. I will do this add every other change in-between the BMW Free ones.

Ive used it...not bad. No damage but didn't notice any super special difference over not using. Cost wise not that bad and don't think you're losing much if you pass on it. I think I'll still give it a try in my new [to me] M4 Comp. Wish me luck.

Motorkote did much better than Liqui Moly.

If you watch the Motorkote video, you can clearly tell it reduces friction. And how many motors do you know that can run for an hour with water replacing the oil?

My question to you then, why would I experiment on a brand new car under warranty? Let alone let it run on water - what kind of scenario would lead you to doing any of that?

There's tons of chemicals that reduce friction. Doesn't mean any of them need to be put in my engine and or be paid extra for.

Finally, vast majority of engines in the world run perfectly well without that snake oil, and will continue to do so regardless of our conversation.

How many of you fill 89 oct gas?
If you are selling the car tomorrow, that’s fine right?
Organic foods any better? People are still living without it.
20 bucks and reduce friction? Ok I will buy it.
5k mile oil change will do the same thing.

I’d learned to change my oil more frequently instead of hoping additives work. Fresh clean oil has plenty of factory additives, and you don’t want to alter their mix. I use BMW TPT oil, using a 5K mile OCI for street use.

I have a bottle of CeraTec and two bottles of MoS2 Anti Friction just sitting on my bench for the last year, if anyone wants them (for shipping cost plus a couple bucks).
