Because it's an age old comparison. The M3/4 has always been about 911 levels of performance with more practicality for less money. Futher, 911 and M3/4 have been close racing competitors in several categories for several decades. Even if they are not direct competitors, it is still interesting to see how they stack up. I've actually remember many comparos featuring the E46, E92 or F8X against the 911 where the M3/4 took the win.

If the M4 is no better as a daily than the uninspiring, noisy F80 it’s a simple decision. If the M4 is great at that and close enough in the strong 992 areas the choice is also easy in the other way. Anything in between and it becomes difficult. I’d also love to see a comparison like this by a quality mag. with the F82 vs G82. Track battle, drag race, country roads and city driving. I find it interesting some of you think the M4 is on the same level as a 911. To me their is absolutely no comparison.
If you are going to compare them, then the M3/M4 should be matched against the 911 S or to come GTS. The M3/M4 is not a base model. So how can one compare the top of the line M series to a base model 911 and say the M3/M4 is better. lol. Everything the 911 does, it does it much better than the M3/M4. Other than carry cargo and be easier to get in and out of. Dont get me wrong. I love BMW. I always will. I loved all 5 of my M cars. And I sure do miss the BMW infotainment design. Id have another one next to my 911 S if they weren't so ugly now. But this M3/M4 vs 911 base is just silly to me. Lets match the horsepower outputs and see what happens.

Triggered? I am just saying that I find it odd people match a front engine rear wheel drive M3/M4 with a 2 seater rear engine 911. The 911 is on another level any way you look at it. And that if one is going to compare them, then why not do it with matching HP.

As far as power outputs go, sure for shits and giggles, but does that really make practical sense? I think the idea here is that the M3/M4 can offer some of the Porsche experience and all of the practicality at a "bargain" price. If they all cost the same you'd be in a GT3/RS or TTS, no? So the price does play a role for all of us - but some of us more than others. And let's not forget, some of us choose to drive BMWs even if we have the means for something more. Besides, the sole reason we're having this conversation is because these publications feel like it's one worth having - and as CanAutM3 pointed out above - they've been having it for generations. |

Im no upset. I love both brands equally. I just don't like the new nostrils, and ZF tranny to own another M3 right now. And as an owner of both cars (I had a 2017 F80 and a 2017 911 at same time not too long ago) I just don't understand how we can compare the two cars. They are on two completely separate spectrums IMO. But if drag race results make people feel like they got there monies worth from a 85-90K well equipped M3 vs a 115-125K base 911, so be it. Who am I to judge. That's just not how I see it or compare to the two at all.

So you have this guy talking about tension and ferocity of the G8X M3's personality (...a trait other reviewers have reserved for the outgoing F8X) and regaling the Alfa for being composed, compliant, predictable and soft (...a trait other reviewers claim applies to the G8X, much to the chagrin of F8X lovers who enjoyed hooliganing). It just serves to demonstrate that these reviewers are just people.......people with different perceptions of the same instrument. Take their subjective sentiments with a grain of salt because the only one that matters is that of the buyer.
